SIGMA PHI EPSILON 3 Theta Data Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future P aul Morris '64 always thought SigEp was a leader on campus. His involvement with the fraternity came from interacting with the brothers he met during recruitment and strengthened during his time in the chapter. Paul is chairman and CEO of Elk River Resources LLC. The company he founded explores for, develops, and produces oil and gas in the Southwest, mainly in west Texas. 2014 marks his 54th year in the industry in which he started as an undergraduate engineer in Cincinnati. Since graduating with his BSME in 1964, Paul has learned to take a dominant role in leadership and to be more efficient allocating available time to manage constructive dealings. "Ohio Theta taught me a lot about self-respect, the respect of others, leadership, and maturity. To this day, I'm proud to say I'm a SigEp." Paul's involvement with the capital campaign stems from his memories of being an active member. "I remember how proud I was of the new addition to the fraternity house in the '60s. I lived in that addition from when it opened until I graduated, and the special bonding that developed among the brothers living in the house at that time was most impressive. That addition meant so much to all of us at the time and instilled in us a great sense of pride. It had a very positive effect on the chapter, and by contributing to the campaign now, I hope to have the same impact on the current and future members of Ohio Theta." Those brotherly bonds have remained strong over the years. Paul and a group of about 10 other Cincinnati SigEps exchange e-mails daily and have a reunion on a near annual basis. "We live all over the country—Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina—so the location changes depending on who's planning the event. For those who have lost touch, I suggest you start by reaching out and contacting brothers from your pledge class. It's amazing how the information will commence to flow with the use of e-mail. Then get the reunions started. You'll be glad you did. Paul and his wife, Carol, live in Midland, Texas, and have three daughters and six grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He hunts on safari in Africa every two years and also enjoys ranching in west Texas. He also calls the oil and gas industry his hobby as well as his profession. You can contact Paul at pmorris@elk-river.com.
