150 YEARS OF THETA XI: Building Alpha's Future Together E nsuring the academic, character, and leadership development of our members and assisting the chapter in recruiting and retaining quality men are the goals of our alumni association. Our home at 1490 Sage Avenue is instrumental in achieving these goals by providing a living and learning center that also serves to sustain and grow the vision and bond of our fraternity. The 83-year-old chapter house plays a significant role as a home away from home for the active brothers, so it is important that it is in the best shape possible. The three areas of emphasis are safety, competition and value, and tradition. Safety. Safety and compliance are our top priorities. The University is increasingly more involved in the regulation of Greek housing. We must provide our active brothers with housing that complies with the University's standards to keep the house open to continue our brotherhood. The electrical and heating systems are antiquated and must be updated to meet modern code, efficiency and load/usage requirements. Planned renovations will require a building per- mit, which will appropriately subject us to today's more stringent building and fire codes. Code enforcement will require mandatory life-safety items, such as the installation of fire sprinklers throughout the chapter house. In addition, all asbestos present will need to be removed. Competition and Value. Having an attractive and high-quality chapter house is imperative because it gives us a sense of pride and it is how the rest of the world sees our fraternity. It is, in fact, our most important marketing tool as it stands tall as a beacon of excellence at the center of campus. It is the face of our brotherhood. It is our brand. Having a warm and well-kept house is crucial for our ability to compete with other fraternities and living arrangements that students are offered. Providing students and their parents with a sense of security through the impressive nature of our house is important for attracting potential members and growing the fraternity. Improving the look and quality of the house will also enrich the academic and social experience for our active brothers. Tradition. A committee of alumni volunteers have planned to re- store many of the historical features of the house while conducting these renovations. Drawing on our rich history will inspire our ac- tive brothers and give alumni a familiar home to come back to every April and October. The Alpha Alumni Association is committed to investing the necessary time, talent, and funds to ensure that future Theta Xi brothers have an experience similar to the one shared by so many of our alumni.
