Founded in 1974 in Bangor, ME., the Blue Knight organization is a non-profit group made up of active and retired law enforcement men and women who like riding motorcycles. The group has 586 chapters and almost 20,000 mem- bers in 28 countries. Like many motorcycle clubs the Blue Knights work hard to raise money for char- ity. Some of the recipients of their generosity have included Make a Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, D.A.R.E., and Concerns of Police Survivors. In addition to helping those in need, the organization provides for the mutual assistance, enjoy- ment, entertainment, education, physical, mental and social ben- efit of its members and the gen- eral public, promotes and advance the sport of motorcycling and the safety of motorcycling, and serves the interests of motorcycle own- ers and users. They also promote by example and any other accept- able means, safe use, operation and enjoyment of motorcycles and strive to develop a fraternal spirit between law enforcement personnel and the general public. There is a $25 registration fee for the mechanics and mainte- nance course and preregistration is required, as space is limited. The course fee includes training materi- als, lunch and participation in the ride. An optional "basic" tool kit is available for purchase for only $45.00. The course is expected to sell out, so early registration is recom- mended. Call (256) 444-8713 or visit www.blueknights-nc-xiii.org for more details. THIRSTY THURSDAY $1. 00 OFF ALL DRINKS
