The rest of D-1 in order was Shasta (16-8), Foothill (13-10), Enterprise (11-14), Oroville (8-14-1), Paradise (9-15), West Valley (8-15-1) and Las Plumas (6-17). Corning (8-11) was hold- ing onto the No. 6 seed in Di- vision 2 with 21.460 points. Lassen (9-11-1) was ahead of the Cardinals with 23.322 points. Playoffs FROM PAGE 1 The Associated Press MIAMI LeBron James scored 22 points, Ray Al- len added 19 and the Mi- ami Heat stayed perfect in this postseason by beating the Brooklyn Nets 107-86 on Tuesday night in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series. Chris Bosh scored 15 points, Dwyane Wade added 14 and Mario Chalmers had 12 for Miami, which was 0-4 against the Nets in the reg- ular season. A 24-9 run in the third quarter blew things open for the Heat, who hadn't played in eight days after sweeping Charlotte in the opening round. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson scored 17 points each for the Nets, who got only eight from Paul Pierce and no points from Kevin Garnett in 16 minutes. DURANTVOTEDMVP Kevin Durant has plenty of scoring titles. Now, he finally has an MVPtrophytogowiththem. The Oklahoma City Thunder star won the NBA's top individual honor Tuesday, receiving 119 first- place votes. Miami's LeBron James, who had won the last two MVP awards and four of the previous five, finished second with six first-place votes, and Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers was third. Durant won his fourth scoring crown in five years by averaging 32 points. The 6-foot-9 forward helped the Thunder go 59-23, second- best in the league. NBA Heat take Game 1, top Brooklyn By Will Graves The Associated Press PITTSBURGH Starling Marte was called out, then ruled safe on a replay review with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Pittsburgh Pirates over San Francisco 2-1 Tuesday night and ending the Giants' six-game winning streak. It was 1-all when Marte tripled off the right-field wall against Tim Hudson. Marte slid into third, got up and bolted home when the relay from second baseman Ehire Adrianza skipped by third baseman Pablo San- doval. Sandoval recovered to throw home and plate um- pire Quinn Wolcott initially ruled Marte was tagged by San Francisco catcher Buster Posey. A brief re- view showed Marte's right hand touched the plate be- fore Posey tagged his chest. Tony Watson (3-0) worked one inning. Marte scored both Pittsburgh runs and Ike Davis added two hits. Hudson (4-2) allowed two runs on five hits in 8 2/3 in- nings, striking out five and walking one. Pittsburgh starter Char- lie Morton pitched eight sparkling innings, giving up one unearned run and three hits, walking two and strik- ing out three. Both teams were looking for length out of their start- ers after a five-hour, 13-in- ning marathon on Monday night won by the Giants 11- 10 left the bullpens taxed. Going deep into games hasn't been a problem for Hudson, who worked with his typical efficiency while giving the relievers some needed down time. The 38-year-old has thrown at least seven in- nings in all seven of his starts this season. BASEBALL Marte safe, Pirates edge SF Pittsburgh scores run with two outs in bottom of ninth ery player publicly called for Jackson to return. My- ers spoke to several play- ers after he and Lacob in- formed Jackson of their de- cision in a meeting Tuesday morning. "They've seen some good things that have happened in the last three years — Mark Jackson being one of them. The hope and be- lief after talking to them is that they trust us and they believe that we make deci- sions to win as well," My- ers said. Jackson took to Twitter to thank the organization, players and fans. Several of his present players also ap- plauded the job he had done. Warriors FROM PAGE 1 The Lady Spartans re- ally poured it on in the sec- ond inning as Cheyanne Grannes and Shelby Bac- cala started things off with back-to-back singles. Zazu- eta then drew a walk to load the bases. Sam Jones hit an RBI in- field single to score Grannes before Baccala and Zazueta scored two more runs on er- rant pitches. Following an Akins walk, Alyssa Hethcoat drove in another run to make it 7-2. Nicholls then put an ex- clamation point on the in- ning with the first of two home runs she would have in the game. Zazueta led off the third inningwithasolohomerthat landed off the storage unit behind the left-field fence. Two batters later, Akins grounded to short, but the ball got through the fielder and a trio of errors led to Akins coming all the way around to score. Hethcoat followed with a single and Nicholls put the finishing touches on the game with her second homer. The Lady Spartans went on to win in a mercy-short- ened five innings. GAME2 Give Shasta credit — it didn't fold after the Game 1 blowout. While Red Bluff had the big second inning in Game 1, Shasta came back with one of its own in the second game. Shasta strung together four consecutive RBI singles around some rare sloppy play by the Lady Spartans defense to score five runs in the inning. Midway through the in- ning Zazueta, who had started, was lifted for Nich- olls. Shasta made it 6-0 with another RBI single in the third inning. But in the bottom half of the fourth inning Red Bluff's offense woke up again. Hethcoat led off with a single and Nicholls followed by drawing a walk. Then it was Murphy's turn to swing the big stick and she cut the lead in half with a homer to left field to make it 6-3. Red Bluff wasn't done. Grannes got a two-out rally started with a single that was capped by a Zazu- eta homer to make it 6-5. The Lady Spartans seemed poised to take the lead in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases with one out, but Shasta pitcher Ashley Green induced a pair of popups. Shasta tacked on a run of its own the next inning to extend its lead to 7-5. It wouldn't be enough. Grannes reached on an error to start Red Bluff's sixth inning. Zazueta then blasted her second homer of the game and third of the day to tie the game 7-7. Once again Red Bluff wasn't finished. Jones reached on a single and was eventually gunned down at home plate on a Murphy single in an effort to take the lead. But with two outs Nich- olls drove in Hethcoat, and Murphy followed with an RBI single of her own to make it 9-7. Nichols got the first two outs of the seventh inning in order, but Shasta once again showed heart as Ni- cole Batman came through with a bases-loaded single to tie the game 9-9. Shasta held Red Bluff in the bottom of the seventh to force an extra inning. It was there the Spartans would win it. Nichollssqueezedasingle into right field, then moved over on a Murphy sacri- fice bunt. Stefanie Brunello reached when Shasta's in- field elected to hold Nich- olls at second rather than take the out at first. Bac- cala then moved both run- ners over into scoring po- sition with a sacrifice bunt. That brought up Grannes with two out and the senior came through with an RBI single down the third-base line to give Red Bluff win No. 17 in a row. The nine runs Shasta scored were more than Red Bluff had given up in its previous seven games combined. Red Bluff improved to 5-3 in Sac River League play and 25-6 overall. They travel to Shasta to complete the three-game series Friday.
