The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex will host the North
Carolina Quiz Bowl on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the museum. All ages are
welcome and the event is free of charge.
"It is an interesting event for anyone who loves quiz shows like Jeopardy
and Who wants to be a Millionaire," said Jim Brisson, historical interpreter at the
Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex.
"It is kind of formal, not rigid, so people should be able to participate and
have a good time."
Brisson added that participants and spectators can learn a lot by watching
the bowl. The purpose of the event is for people to come out and share
knowledge of North Carolina and learn about N.C. history.
"There are going to be plenty of categories for participants to choose
from," said Brisson. "We are going to have 13 different categories consisting
of sports, the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, North Carolina in pictures and
other categories."
The quiz bowl has a three-strike format. Each participant has three
chances to answer a question before being disqualifi ed. "It is a pretty forgiving
process," said Brisson.
Prizes will be awarded in two categories: 17 and over and 16 and under.
There will be an emcee and the museum staff will judge the event. "If there
is any kind of controversy regarding an answer the museum will make the
fi nal decision," said Brisson, adding that some of the resources used for the
formulation of the questions came off of the state library of North Carolina's Web
site and the Encyclopedia of North Carolina.
"We are a state history museum and our goal is to spread the history of North
Carolina," said Brisson. "We want to do this in an enjoyable and relaxed state."
The space is limited to 20 participants. Call the museum to register or
you can register at the door. Spectators are welcome. For more information
