That's something the staff and advisory council of WFSS radio is counting on. Following a brainstorming session several years ago, they came up with the idea to create an event that would involve jazz, food, fun and the community. Jazz on the River was born through that session, and now, four years later, they are back at the table putting together the fi nal details for this year's event. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, the event will feature the mellow sounds of Jackiem Joyner, Nils, Gordon James and the Groove Masters. In recent years, several national, regional and local artists have played at the events including Pamela Williams, Eric Darius, Joyce Cooling, Alex Bugnon, Ken Ford and Nick Colionne. Jazz on the River is a great way to relaxing, enjoy nature and listen to some top notch jazz musicians. The Sol Rose Amphitheater, located at Campbellton Landing, gives a peaceful vibe to jazz listeners. As the artists play, attendees will be wined and dined on food and beverages provided by WFSS 91.9 FM and Campbellton Landing. Guests should bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. No outside beverages, food or coolers will be allowed. "Jazz on the River has not only turned out to be a great fundraiser for WFSS, but it has also been a wonderful opportunity for us to meet our listeners," said Janet Wright, WFSS program director. "They have expressed their excitement that WFSS presents the annual event and have asked us to do it in the spring as well." WFSS volunteers and staff hope that attendees will not only enjoy the event but also take the time to learn more about WFSS public radio. The WFSS store will temporarily change locations, with an adjunct store set up at the event. Shirts, hats, chairs and other radio merchandise will be available for purchase. All proceeds help support WFSS in providing public radio to the community Also while enjoying the event, guests are encouraged to interact with artists after their performances. If you are interested in meeting the people behind the microphones, the WFSS staff will be at Jazz on The River. Some of the staff who will be at the event are Jimmy Miller, WFSS music director, host of Morning Jazz and This Week in Jazz. Janet Wright, program director, Kathy Klaus WFSS news director and host of Morning Edition, Jeff Womble, the general manager and Ray Thomas host of The Bronco Café. Campbellton Landing is located at 1122 Person Street in Fayetteville. The show will begin at 5 p.m., with gates opening at 4 p.m. Ticket are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate.
