alpha Chi Prepared linda legg '69 for Career success L inda Legg '69 came to Alpha Chi Omega at KU seeking a good environment and at- mosphere for learning and a chance to meet new friends. She wanted to live some- place smaller than a dorm, where studying was valued and respected. She found all that, and more. Being part of Alpha Chi presented Linda with great opportunities to develop leadership and networking skills. "I was so proud to meet and get to know other motivated and smart students who set high goals for themselves. My three years in Alpha Chi provided me with quality life experiences that made me a stronger and more self-confident person." After graduating from KU with a B.S. in history and education in 1972, and a juris doctor degree from KU Law School in 1975, Linda was hired by AT&T into their corporate law department and had an extremely successful and varied career, rising to become one of 10 corporate officers, heading up a worldwide legal department of more than 475 attorneys. After 35 years of working in corporate law, Linda retired in 2010 as the senior vice president–general counsel and secretary of AT&T advertising solutions. "I am proud to have been on the forefront of integrating women into business leadership positions, and to help change the landscape of business for women." "Alpha Chi provided me an excellent opportunity to develop more effective problem-solving and communications skills, and I found that along with the leadership experiences I had, I was better prepared to enter the workplace. I also learned the importance of being a go-to person who didn't shy away from challenges and hard work. Employers today seek evidence of people who can solve problems, who have had quality life experiences, and an ability to work well with others. My time in Alpha Chi taught me the importance of building strong relationships and team building, as well as the skill of networking. Having friends is nice, but I found networking in business to be essential." Looking back on her time as a collegiate member, Linda remembers the house as a caring environment and a home filled with laugher and music. "The songs of the late '60s and early '70s are engrained in my memories because of the music I heard at Alpha Chi. And laughter is important in life. You have to keep at least one friend who can make you laugh and help you see the humor in even the most stressful times. Laughter helps everything." Linda lives in St. Louis, Missouri, where she serves as a director of several non-profit boards, and sponsors scholarships and a fellowship program at the KU and MU Law Schools. She was happily married to her late husband, Larry Crahan, for 21 years. "I am happy to give back within my community and become engaged in work with my alma mater and with my late husband's alma mater, the University of Missouri School of Law. My husband and I supported each other's careers and delighted in each other's successes. He was a terrific attorney and appellate judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals, and most of all, my best friend. I still miss him greatly." In addition to the volunteer work that she does, Linda enjoys reading, movies, traveling, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, KU basketball, and PBS ("Downton Abbey is a delight").
