2 MU NEWS the Personnel Advisor, a position she continues to hold to this day and has shared for the last five years with Marva Sheehan as Co-Personnel Advisors. Caryl and Byron celebrated 55 years living in the Bay Area this year. Their sons David and Scott were both Cal Bears, and gave Caryl and Byron five grandchildren. Sadly, Caryl lost her beloved Byron in April after a prolonged illness. Caryl has many fond memories of serving Mu Chapter over the years. She has enjoyed representing Mu at dozens of Chi Omega Conventions and Firesides. Although she learned much of the material many times over, it kept everything new to see it through the eyes of the collegians learning it for the first time. Caryl particularly cherishes the many Monday nights she spent with her advisor friends sharing dinner at the chapter house, meeting together, and working with amazing undergraduate leaders. She feels that she has been very fortunate to have found a second Chi Omega home at Cal, but members know that Mu Chapter has been the true beneficiary of Caryl's love and support for her Chi Omega Sisters. Chi Omega Is a Lifelong Experience (Continued from page 1) MU CHAPTER SHOWS LEADERSHIP Members Excel in Philanthropy and Campus Involvement I t has been a busy semester so far for Mu Chapter. The sisterhood has much to be proud of through the hard work of members in philanthropy, personal development, and campus leadership. We have been working toward a well-rounded Chi O experience for all our members. Chapter Raises $8,000 for Charity This semester we are hosting our fourth annual Frats at Bat tournament and our third annual Make-a-Wish Barbeque. Between the two events alone, we've raised over $8,000 in the past to grant two wishes to very deserving young boys. Our goals for this year are to raise enough money to grant a least one more wish. Mu Chapter has been actively involved on campus and participating in local philanthropy events throughout the semester. Last semester, Mu Chapter volunteered over 2,000 hours in the community and hopes to surpass this number this semester. Members Focus on Wellness Career and personal development flourished this semester with weekly runs, personal development tips, and a 30-day happiness challenge where women sent in a photo of a happy moment every day. Members also participated in Women Empowerment Month with weekly themes of body image and beauty, what women can do, and women in the workforce. Activities consisted of individualized compliment notes on bathroom mirrors, a yoga class with the mantra "women can," a professional self- defense class, headshots, and a Q&A panel with alumnae about balancing work and family. Mus Show Leadership on Campus The women of Chi Omega do an excellent job of balancing academics and involvement in campus activities, with Mu Chapter being the home to seven members of Cal's cheer and dance teams, three campus ambassadors, an ASUC senator, a co-founder of a public policy seminar, a director of programming for panhellenic, a past president of prytanean women's honor society, and leaders in Cal's triatholon, soccer, lacrosse, and sailing teams. Overall, Mu has had a wonderful semester thus far with Bid Day, scholarship dinner, XOXO Valentines Invite, Women Empowerment Month, alumnae panels, and intramural sports teams, and we look forward to participating in Frats at Bat, Make-a-Wish BBQ, and Eleusinia. Mu Chapter is so appreciative of the dedication and support from advisors and alumnae who contribute ceaseless inspiration and encouragement to achieve our goals and to follow our passions. Our door is always open for alumnae to drop in for a visit! Loyally, Jessica Welsh '13 President calchiomegapresident@gmail.com (714) 837–7742 Our sisters enjoy supporting Cal athletics.
