& The Lion The Ladybug P H I M U F R A T E R N I T Y A T O L E M I S S SPRING 2014 A place to call home is the first thing that I think of when presented with this question. That is what the Alpha Delta House Corporation helps provide for our sisters at the University of Mississippi. We strive to create and maintain a beautiful, comfortable structure that we can all call home. Oxford is my home and I am so excited to take a leadership role with our House Corporation. I have participated in most of the aspects of our sisterhood—phi, active, alumnae, advisor, and mentor. Many aspects of sorority life at Ole Miss have changed throughout the years. We have a lot more sisters than we did when I pledged some 30 years ago, and there are a lot more opportunities for our sisters to celebrate our Phi Mu sisterhood. One aspect has not changed, however, and that is the loyalty and happiness that we feel when we walk into our beautiful house. I want to send a heartfelt thanks to our outgoing president, Mitzi Randolph Breland '77, and outgoing treasurer, Donna Sanders Mills '82, for all their hard work and dedication. We have benefited greatly under their leadership. Laura D'Antoni '05 is our new treasurer and we are so excited to have her on our board of directors. Lisa Fratesi Ivy '84 will thankfully continue as our able and efficient secretary. Our House Corporation is made up of dedicated alumnae who have made a commitment of their time and energy for this purpose. We are truly blessed with amazing sisters, and I encourage each of you to celebrate your sisterhood; join your local alumni group (or start one) and offer your talents to our Chapter or House Corporation. Our Chapter needs to feel the support of Phi Mu alumnae everywhere! There are so many ways that each of you can help make our Phi Mu house a home. M ary Scott Rosser Shepherd '79 has earned quite the reputation as the "cow lady" among her friends and clients who recognize and collect her paintings of cows in the rural landscape. She has evolved light years from her days at Ole Miss, where she majored in banking and finance, was elected ASB treasurer, a campus favorite, and into the Hall of Fame. After she became a stay-at-home mom for her two young sons, Mary Scott yearned for an activity that would fill her need to create and give her a sense of accomplishment. She began taking painting lessons, and her delight in collecting antique pastoral scenes started what became a passion to paint them herself. "Mississippians are fortunate to be surrounded every day by the beauty of our rolling hills and flat Delta vistas filled with grazing cows, horses and sheep, and that is exactly my inspiration to keep on painting." And it seems that her paintings spark that same sentiment in others, as the scenes touch upon their deep love of the landscape and emotional attachment to home.
