Not pictured is coach Mike Haworth. VOLLEYBALL Special to the DN The Shasta Creations 18 volley- ball team competed at the Far Western in Reno over the weekend. More than 600 teams in eight divisions from across the nation attended. The Creations are made up of some of the the Northern Section’s elite volleyball talent and are coached by Kim Wheeler and Mike Haworth. Red Bluff’s Riley Kittle and Mercy’s Maggie Keller are part of the team. In the 18’s club division the Creations were ranked 14 out of 95 teams. They went undefeated the first two days of the tournament to move up to 11th on Saturday. On the last day of the tourna- ment, the Creations won their 3- team pool moving up to 6th over- all. In the knockout portion of the competition the Creations beat Xcelleration 25-21, 25-19, before ultimately falling to Club V Utah 25-17, 26-24. San Gabriel then beat the Cre- ations 25-23, 25-21 in a consola- tion match. Still, the run to the semifinals was enough to give the Shasta Cre- ations a fourth place finish. It was the best finish for any Northern Section team in the histo- ry of the tournament. Waters caught an impressive 24.14 pounds of bass. His five fish averaged 4.83 pounds a piece.
