ers and placed them atop each other inside a
custom concrete wall.
She didn't stop there. She also helped lay
slate for the countertops and, to avoid grout
lines on the floor, simply butted together
large rough-edged limestone tiles.
Upstairs, she converted her former bed-
room into a media room, and downstairs,
in the space that her son once occupied,
Aiken's carpenter removed the cosmetic walls
that originally divided the floor into six small
rooms.
The space was transformed into an open-
plan master suite that incorporates a gas fire-
place and an unenclosed concrete bathroom.
