You probably knew him by a different name, but the job has always been the same. With over 80 women in the house, 11 showers, 25 sinks, 13 toilets, lights, vacuums, furniture, flooring, etc., there is always something to check, fix, or maintain. Our maintenance man since 2006 is Dwane Biggerstaff. Dwane is a retired 28-year fire lieutenant and paramedic with the Lawrence Fire Department. On a typical day, he replaces burned out light bulbs, unplugs backed-up shower drains, repairs toilets and leaking faucets, repairs vacuum cleaners, and mends door hinges or dresser drawers, just to name a few. The drains are a constant battle as one may imagine (remember the mention of 80 women and 11 showers?). The usual wear and tear in a house this big and this busy is never ending. Dwane also makes himself available for getting cars started or dug out during snow months, and airing up or changing tires. Dwane's hard work keeps the house running, and for that we are greatly appreciative. Time-consuming projects and preventative maintenance are held in the summer when the house is empty. This work includes cleaning out all the drains, servicing the boiler and HVAC system, cleaning the kitchen oven and vent hood, tuning the grand piano, shampooing the carpets, and spraying the entire house, from attic to basement, for bugs. Dwane oversees all this summer work. In summer 2015, we hope to install new carpeting in the formal living room, hallways, second-floor social area, chapter room, and stairways. This is a great endeavor for us, and an expensive one too. The house needs to be showcased well during recruitment, and when you, our alumnae, visit. We always appreciate financial and time donations from you, so please let us know if you are interested in being part of our board. We're always accepting new members. If you ever visit Lawrence, please let us know and we can provide a tour of the house. We always welcome alumnae to come see what has changed, but also the many things that remain the same. This tour would definitely take you back to your college days. Loyally, Liz Hickam Ardell '90 House Corporation Member threehounds@everestkc.net Our beloved handyman, Dwane! New hardwood floors were installed in the bedrooms. Undergraduates Busy, Thriving, and Loving Life H ello and Delta love to all alumnae near and far! The Theta Omega Chapter has been enjoying months of bonding and sisterhood-based activities to foster true, authentic, perpetual bonds of friendship among our now 160 members. Here is a bit of what is going on behind the door of the big yellow Oxford house. MEMBERSHIP After welcoming a large freshman pledge class of 57 new members in the fall, Theta Omega was honored to award 11 new members with a bid to our chapter this spring during COR. These new members are currently attending new member meetings and learning all of the ins and outs of the chapter. It is always a treat to visit them in the chapter room as they learn about what makes our organization so wonderful. These women were initiated April 17 after enjoying a very special Delta Week planned by our VPCD, Jordan McEntee '12. MEMBER ACTIVITIES The involvement of our chapter members on campus and within the Lawrence community has named our chapter in the highest distinction for community involvement within the Panhellenic world. Currently 100% of our members are involved in an organization outside of Tri Delta, while 35% of those women also hold leadership positions in those organizations. In addition, we have had Tri Delta representation at every leadership H H (Continued on page 2)
