Alpha Nu Sets Goals for 2014 Sisters Stay Busy with Service and Sisterhood 6 Lyre Notes Alpha Nu has set the following goals for 2014: • Be top three in grades at the end of the spring semester. • Participate in at least one philanthropy event outside of Alpha Chi Omega. • Improve communication throughout the chapter. W e look forward to pairing with the men of Alpha Kappa Lambda for a spring philanthropy called These Hands Don't Hurt. This philanthropy supports the True North Women's Center, which benefits victims of domestic violence. We also look forward to this year's Greek Week with the men of Delta Tau Delta and FarmHouse. Alpha Nu members have been incredibly busy this academic year. The chapter observed Domestic Violence Awareness month during October 2013 by hosting our annual midnight barbecue and dodge ball tournament. The barbecue was a huge success, raising more than $6,000 for the True North Women's Center. Some of our sisters, as well as members of other campus organizations, sang and danced as entertainment. It was a good feeling to know our chapter could make an impact to support victims of domestic violence. A newer tradition at Alpha Nu is the Big Sis reveal, which is held just prior to initiation. After new members are paired with a Bid Day Buddy, Alpha Sis, Chi Sis, and Omega Sis, they then request an older member of the chapter to be their Big Sis. For the reveal, the Big Sisters each decorate a large box with the name of their Little Sis on it and then hide inside. Little Sisters are provided clues that lead them to their box and the Big Sisters reveal themselves by popping out of the box. This year's reveal was held on Francis Quadrangle. Alpha Nu celebrated MacDowell Month in February at the chapter house with a sisterhood event with the Alpha Chis at William Woods University. The group painted canvases, sang Alpha Chi songs, and were serenaded by the men of Delta Chi. On March 1, in honor of Hera Day, members volunteered at the Central Missouri Food Bank, where we packed food for those in need. The ladies had a blast listening to music and packing food. It was a great way to spend some time with each other and give back to the community. Each year, Alpha Chi participates in a philanthropic event benefitting the Multiple Sclerosis Institute of Mid-Missouri called RAMS (Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis). Participating Greek chapters compete in a variety of events such as Comedy Night, Speaker Night, Service Day and, the most exciting event of them all, a lip-syncing competition called Rock It. Alpha Chi took second place in Rock It. Although we are so proud of our dancers for placing, we are more proud to have participated in raising $65,000 for the MS Institute of Mid-Missouri. Alpha Chi placed first among sororities for the Mizzou Dance Marathon. The campus-wide event raised $176,000 for the MU Children's Hospital. Alpha Chi was recognized for the number of dancers participating and the amount of money we raised. Loyally, Gina Olsen '12, Chapter President gmo4hf@mail.missouri.edu Alpha Nu members joined with Delta Chis from William Woods University for a sisterhood event. The men of Delta Chi serenaded the ladies. Alpha Chis volunteer at the Central Missouri Food Bank for Hera Day. Sisters were excited to meet their matches during the Big-Little reveal. Several Alpha Chis received 4.0 awards at the scholarship banquet.
