Gamma Xi Anchor 4 Lubbock Alumnae chapter Stays Involved with Gamma Xi Chapter Supports Lodge Updates T he Lubbock alumnae chapter has been active through sisterhood events, philanthropy, and community service. This year $3,000 was donated to the Delta Gamma Service for Sight: Joining Forces Program. Several sisterhood events were hosted including meals, a "pinspired" craft night, a couples dinner hosted by Barbara Bergman Robertson '71, the annual Legacy Christmas Tea at the home of Vicki Vannon Nixon '70, and alumnae coffee and tea hosted by Bonnie Crouch Mather '60, Iowa. We had the opportunity to interact with and support the chapter through a Halloween Trick or Treat event, collected items for and learned more about the Guide Dogs of Texas, and will host the senior installment ceremony on Sunday, April 27. The Delta Gamma reunion in November 2013 was a huge success. A special thanks to Emily Fisher '02 and Emily Thurman '02 for all their hard work in pulling this great event together. We had Gamma Xis, with their spouses and families, representing pledge classes that spanned more than 40 years. The reunion kicked off with nearly 50 alumnae and spouses joining for dinner at Gardski's Loft on Friday night, complete with lots of laughs and finding long- lost sisters! Selling our ticket block of more than 100 tickets, we had a whole section of Gamma Xis and their families cheering on our Red Raiders after a fun morning of tailgating. Thank you to all who came to the reunion and be on the lookout for the second Gamma Xi reunion in the fall of 2015. More than 400 people attended Founders' Day! The room was completely packed with alumnae, collegians, and their moms. Founding Member Mary Ellen Emery Carr '54 took us on a journey down memory lane during our 60th Anniversary Founders' Day Celebration. She remembers that the first pledge class wowed the Phi Delts and recalls comments like, 'wow, every girl on that bus was beautiful, and 'are all Delta Gammas like that?' "They were impressed and so were we. We were all Delta Gammas wearing the anchor with pride," she shared. The first ever Delta Gamma float with its theme, "Heaven Help Them" garnered many laughs. Several of Gamma Xi's founding members came from all over to attend. Mary Ellen's complete speech and additional photos from Founders' Day can be found at www.lubbock.deltagamma.org. We were so excited to provide Leisha Marley Gonzalez '96, Oklahoma, with the Margaret Nelson Award for her work and dedication as the alumnae chapter president, and Deborah Greene Finlayson '79 was presented the Cable Award. The highlight of the alumnae awards was the presentation of the Oxford award. Anne Robison Huffman '63 was awarded the Delta Gamma Oxford Award, posthumously, for her service to her community through volunteer and philanthropic activities. It honors the alumna who takes pride in her community and who, through the years, devotes her talents to improve the quality of life around her. The Lubbock alumnae chapter is elated about the plans for the new lodge and is excited to continue supporting the chapter throughout the campaign process. There was a huge turnout of alumnae for the Delta Gamma open house last fall. Aleesa Miller Ross '95, Nicole Heinlein McDonald '05, Loren Severski Douglass '05, Sharon Campbell Eubank '73, and Sally Alcorn Haliburton '72 at the coffee and tea event hosted by Bonnie Mather '60. The annual Legacy Christmas Tea on December 19, at the home of Vicki Nixon '70, was a huge success, with 40 alumnae in attendance. Walter Huffman, husband of Anne Huffman '63, attended Founders' Day to accept the Oxford Award in memory of Anne.
