NEWS Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma State University / Spring 2014 GAMMA LAMBDA ON TOP AT OSU Members Show Leadership on Campus T he Gamma Lambda Chapter of Beta Theta Pi has had an incredible year so far! As a chapter, we placed first in grades and intramurals. We recruited an outstanding pledge class that placed first in grades with a GPA of 3.46, placed second in Follies, and includes multiple Top Ten Freshmen. Members have been very active on campus and in the community even winning Greek Man of the Year. There are many other accomplishments that could be named, but what truly matters is what the numbers and awards cannot tell: Beta is as special of a place as it ever has been. Our brotherhood is strong, arguably the strongest on campus. We are able to develop incredible individuals through a positive pledge program. Strong friendships reach across grade level, major, and personality. Beta is once again a pacesetter at OSU. Having spoken to faculty, staff, and sorority members, it is clear that Beta is considered the top fraternity on campus. This has bolstered our recruitment and all other areas as well. The support of Gamma Lambda alumni is crucial; I am sure that this momentum can be built upon and expand into the future. I encourage alumni in the area to stop by the chapter house and see the successes of the chapter firsthand. Fraternally, Alex Rindels '15 President alex.rindels@okstate.edu Members show OSU pride on game day. Beta hosts event to bring members together. Actives enjoy brotherhood event in the snow. Beta Alumni Reconnect at Football Tailgates T ailgating at Cowboy home games during football season is a wonderfully fun part of the football game. It is a time to walk around campus and see friends, make friends, and see how the ever-changing campus at OSU has evolved since you were there last. Your Beta Theta Pi Building Corporation is hoping to build alumni relations between alumni, actives, and their families beginning with Beta alumni tailgates. Starting with the first home game on August 31, 2013, and for each home game through the bitterly cold final home game on December 7, you could find the Beta tailgate directly outside the southwest corner gate into Boone Pickens Stadium. The tailgate was hosted by Andrea and Greg Colpitts '87 and various alumni and family throughout the season. We provided food and refreshments, but, most importantly, it served as a chance to see a longlost pledge brother or meet one of the outstanding young men of Beta. The location for the Beta alumni tailgate could not be better. We were located at the north end of Hester where it runs into the stadium. We have a front row seat for when the team marches into the stadium. You can't miss our large white tent with Beta Theta Pi on top and flying the Beta flag. On average, 150 to 200 alumni and friends came through the tailgate each game; some for a few minutes and some for the entire time. Everyone I talked to was incredibly excited and pleased. The quote of the season had to be at the first home game from one of the actives who said, "This is a game changer." We plan on being in the same location next year, and if you have your own tailgate, take a few minutes and swing by; if you don't have a tailgate, consider the Beta alumni tailgate your home base. I encourage each of you come by next season and say hello. You won't be disappointed. In -kai-, Greggory T. Colpitts '87
