The junior had no idea she had just thrown a perfect game until she was asked about it. “I was just going out there to get the job done,” she said. McColpin certainly did that, not allowing a single ball out of the infield as the Lady Spartans effi- ciently took out Las Plumas 4-0. With the win Red Bluff improved to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in league play. McColpin’s battery mate, Brit- tney Fletcher was just as locked in — although at the plate. Red Bluff’s cleanup hitter had a pair of RBI singles as the Spartans made the most of their at bats with runners in scoring position. “It’s good because I was slump- ing a little bit,” Fletcher said. One Spartan who hasn’t been slumping as late is Danisha Slay. On Wednesday, she went 2-for-2 and drove in the game’s first run in the second inning by driving home Bryce Etzler. Fletcher picked up her first RBI single in the third inning driving home Haley Harris. Harris was 2-for-3 at the plate and opened up the fifth inning with a double to the left field wall. Two batters later Fletcher drove her home and Morgan Weaver fol- lowed that up with a single of her own, which was misplayed in the outfield allowing Fletcher to score the game’s fourth run. Not that McColpin needed the insurance. Twenty-one batters up. Twenty-one batters down. After having to battle back the Tuesday. BASEBALL Anderson 0 2 7 Red Bluff 11 5 1 By RICH GREENE DN Sports Editor Not that the game needed one, but Austin Brownfield put an exclamation point on Red Bluff’s 11-0 five-inning thumping of Anderson, Wednesday. With the bases loaded, Red Bluff’s catcher jacked a pitch over the right center field fence. It was 11-0 Spartans — in the second inning. Red Bluff took advantage of seven Anderson errors through those first two innings and got the job done with their own pitching and defense to improve to 13-2 on the season. Zane Medeiros tossed three strong innings, then gave way to Stephen Jensen, Cody Case and Taylor Figgs to take care of the rest of the game. The Spartans put four runs on the board in the first inning. It all started with, what else, an Anderson error. With Jordan Fox on first base, Gerald Baker singled. Then Modesto Ramirez put a ground ball into play that the Cubs defense committed two errors on, allowing Fox to score from second. That was followed when Storm Lewis hit a fly ball dropped by the Anderson out- field, allowing Baker to score. Two batters later Mitch Robi- son singled between the short- stop and third baseman to score two more Spartans. The Anderson errors and Red Bluff runs kept coming in the second inning. Figgs led off with a walk, stole second base and grabbed third on a passed ball. With one out, Fox walked to put runners on the corners. Fox broke to steal second base, but Anderson threw the ball away twice trying to get him out and two more runs scored. After Ramirez reached base by being hit by a pitch and Lewis worked a walk, Joel Duggins came through with an RBI single to make it 7-0. Robison then walked to load the bases and up stepped Brown- field, who belted his grand slam. It capped the scoring and well... pretty much the game. Red Bluff travels to Shasta, Friday.
