Jones, Morris earn honors CORVALLIS - Names of students who have made the Scholastic Honor Roll winter term have been announced by Oregon State University. With a Straight-A Average, Christopher A. Jones, Senior, Physics, of Red Bluff; and with a 3.5 or Better,: Mackenzie K. Morris, Junior, Psychology, also of Red Bluff, were named on the list. A total of 723 students earned straight-A (4.0). Another 3,002 earned a B-plus (3.5) or better to make the listing. To be on the Honor Roll, students must carry at least 12 graded hours of course work. Setting it straight There was an error in Monday’s article “Ride raises nearly $35K; record turnout.” The event was started in 2009 by Bailey Brownfield and Jessica Macdonald as a 4H Emerald Star Project. Both equally have continued the project and over the last couple of years have added Taylor Collins, Laura Schreter and numerous other community members to the committee. Everyone is looking to save money, reuse and make things last. We are shopping less and with liv- ing in Red Bluff, we don’t always have a lot of choices about where to go to save money. As busy as we all are, there is little time to know and understand all the ways to maximize our dollars. Some of us shop the advertisements, some of us just cut back on what we spend and some of us do without. Recently, Heather Eastridge began sharing her knowledge about how to use coupons with her friends on Facebook. What started out as just trying to help her friends get by has turned into a full fledged crash course on Coupons 101. Heather has since begun taking the time to send weekly emails to people teaching them the ins and outs of coupon- ing. Her attention to detail is astounding, but more importantly, is her attention to community. She doesn’t even know half the people she is teaching, she is just doing her part to help this community save money, put more food on their table and increase their hap- piness factor. Heather Eastridge is an exam- ple of taking what you know well and sharing it with oth- ers who know not. I mean, I had no idea how to play the coupon game and now I know how to play the game to win. I know that I can save money on items I want and need because of her taking the time to share her process. She has given up hours of her week to spell out for her "Coupon Queens" the intricate details of coupon shopping. Not only that, she is promot- ing shopping locally and who has the best deals on impor- tant products we all need. What is it that you know how to do that could be a lifesaver, money saver or time saver for others? Why don’t you take a moment to teach someone something that can improve their quality of life. Heather had no idea her hobby of couponing and her love of saving money would take off as it has. Imagine what you could do to help others. One of the benefits of commu- nity is taking our talents and shar- ing them with others. Mentoring, shouldering the burdens, teaching, coaching, helping others are often easier to do in smaller communities. Heather doesn’t teach at a local school, she doesn’t write a column to share her wealth of information, she posts a tip on Face- book and she sends out an email. Simple and effec- tive. Faydra Rector You Matter Be like Heather, use your talents to help others. Don’t minimize how small your advice may seem. What you know can help others live better lives. Heather you matter because you saw that people were eager to learn ways to save money. You could have kept the info to yourself and hoarded all of the savings, yet you chose to spread the love.
