Nominated by Lynn Moule of Business Con- nections, Staples was chosen by a committee and presented a certifi- cate Tuesday. Moule’s nomination described a recent expe- rience she had at Sta- ples, said Kristen Gray, a director at the cham- ber. Gray, of Durango RV Resort, heads the selection committee. “[Moule] was obvi- ously very pleased and impressed with how she was treated to take the time to write such a detailed account of her experience at Staples,” Gray wrote in an email. Moule said Michael Brading, a Staples sales associate, was knowl- edgeable and patient in helping her pick out office equipment. The six local youths are competing for a chance to win up to $2,500. This event is sponsored by the Busi- ness and Entrepreneurship Center (BEC) and hosted by Shasta College and U.S. Bank. The six finalists will be competing for $2,500 in prize money. Those who plan to attend are encouraged to bring their cell phone to text vote for their favorite contestant. Those who text their vote are eligible to win a cash prize. One of the keynote speakers at the Competition is Arel Moodie, "America’s Top Young Speaker" and an award-winning entrepreneur. Arel will amaze the audi- ence with his fast-paced stories and humor. Attendees will also hear advice on starting and growing a business in Shasta County from a panel of successful local entre- preneurs. There is no cost to attend this event. Steve Novo, Staples general manager, was pleased that his employ- ee treated Moule so well. “Michael’s great,” Novo said. “I took over a really good team.” Staples has been in Red Bluff for about 12 years, but Novo took charge about four months ago, he said. The office supply chain offers copy and printing services and business marketing sup- plies along with office equipment. A recent addition to the store includes a computer repair service, Novo said. Technicians can set- up and fix computers at a business at competi- tive rates.
