Two, my daughter has bipolar and doesn’t always have that choice, though she doesn’t give up looking for that happy balance.” The Annual Abstract D NEWSAILY HOW TO REACH US RED BLUFF TEHAMACOUNTY THE VOICE OF TEHAMA COUNTY SINCE 1885 VOLUME 126, NUMBER 111 On the Web: www.redbluffdailynews.com MAIN OFFICE: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Main Phone (530) 527-2151 Outside area 800-479-6397 545 Diamond Ave. Red Bluff, CA 96080 ______________________ Mail: Red Bluff Daily News P.O. The surprise ground cover, fall planted shrubs and spring flowering shrubs. Use a fertilizer designed for acid loving plants such as azalea, camel- lia, magnolia, heath (Erica carnea), Japanese andromeda (Pieris japoni- ca) and rhododendron. Plant: Most spring annual plants can be planted outdoors by the middle of April unless it remains quite cool. Pest Control With all the rain we have had, it is important to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by eliminating all excess water in drainage pipes, gut- ters, buckets, plant containers, saucers and anywhere water may stand or collect. Be sure to check the burls in trees on your property for water, especially oak trees, and spray with an insecticide. Aphids, which feed on new growth by sucking out fluids, can be hosed off sturdy plants with a strong blast of water early in the morning or spray insecticidal soap. Insecticidal soap can be made at home by using one or two table- spoons of liquid soap, not deter- gent, to a quart of water. Don’t make it too strong or you will also lose your foliage. These tasks should help to relieve the cabin fever and get you started on a wonderful gardening season. The Red Bluff Garden Club’s Fiftieth Annual Flower Show will be held at the Tehama District Fair- grounds in the Home Arts Building on Mothers Day weekend May 7 and 8. The Tuesday, April 26, program will be on ‘Native Grass’ by David Fritchie. For more information, see www.redbluffgardenclub.com or call 527-4578 or 824-5661. The Red Bluff Garden Club is affiliated with National Garden Clubs Inc., California Garden Clubs Inc., Pacific Region and Cascade District. The exhibits will be open for all of April. This is a First Friday Art Night event, featuring art every first Friday of every month.
