After a very busy fall semester and a relaxing holiday break, we are excited to continue our hard work into the new year. Our new executive council is busy planning many sisterhood, philanthropy, and University-wide events. We can't wait to see what this year holds for our chapter! SiSterhood remainS top priority During the fall semester, we began the Alabama Beta Valued Sis campaign. This allowed members to highlight the good works of sisters on a social media platform. Pi Phis enjoy recognizing deserving sisters and being recognized for the good deeds done on a daily basis in a fun, interactive way. We hosted numerous sisterhood events, including a chapter pottery painting session at the house and renting out a movie theater to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire before the world premiere. We also continued our Leading with Values Program and other activities, such as Polished Pi Phi, which foster the core values of Pi Beta Phi. Fall recruitment pullS Big numBerS In the fall, we gained 124 wonderful baby angels through formal recruitment and continuous open bidding (COB). We were so blessed to have many visitors from the Fraternity during the fall COB process, including Grand President Paula Pace Shepherd, Texas Epsilon '82, and former Grand President Sarah Ruth "Sis" Mullis, South Carolina Alpha '62. It was such a privilege to get to know them and spend time with them during their visit to Tuscaloosa. During spring COB, we gained nine additional members. Director of Recruitment Anne Catherine Luckett '11 and Vice President of Membership Sarah Braslow '11 have already begun recruitment workshops in preparation for fall formal recruitment and the members are doing a wonderful job. We can't wait to teach them all of the Pi Phi songs, especially the door song, and put on an amazing recruitment in August. alaBama Beta'S gpa SoarS Alabama Beta has worked very hard as a chapter on improving grades. Our hard work paid off in January when the grade report for the fall semester was released and Pi Phi rose from number 12 to number five in the sorority GPA rankings! We are incredibly proud of everyone's discipline, focus, and aim to improve even more in the future. chapter repreSented at leaderShip academy Pi Beta Phi Leadership Academy was held in St. Louis February 7–9. Taryn Bartolucci '13, Vice President of Communications Sarah Macaluso '12, and I represented Alabama Beta. We were so excited to learn even more about Pi Phi and get to know the chapters in our region and nationwide on a more personal level. We are off to a great start in 2014! While UA didn't win a Sugar Bowl title, we look forward to spring semester activities and the start of football season and formal recruitment in the fall!
