Alabama Beta Chapter of Pi beta Phi P.O. Box 3055 Tuscaloosa, AL 35403-3055 Address Service Requested of AlAbAmA betA The Alabama Arrow F rom the second she walked through the doors of Pi beta Phi at the University of Alabama, Amber Bruister Morgan '81 knew that's where she belonged. "I had an immediate connection with Dre Fausnaugh de Arroyo '80, who brought me through Ice Water Teas—she later became my Big Sister!" Amber gained an immense sense of pride as a member of not only this specific group of women, but also the oldest fraternity for women. "Through being a Pi Phi, I try to live my life by the core values we were taught, knowing my actions reflect on Pi Phis everywhere. "I wasn't aware how much alumnae did for our chapters until I began serving on the Alumnae Advisory Committee for Mississippi Gamma at Mississippi State University in 2009 (I serve as their financial advisor). Through this role, I've learned that Pi Phi is so much more than the four- year college experience. The relationships I have formed with the women I work with (collegians and alumnae, alike) are just as special to me as the ones with my sisters at Alabama." For alumnae who may have lost touch over the years, Amber suggests using social media to reconnect. "It has really helped me reconnect with sisters I had lost contact with and helped me become very close friends with women I didn't know that well in school. It's never too late to jump back in. I promise you won't regret it!" Amber earned her B.S. in consumer economics and works as a corporate credit manager. She and her husband, Todd, have been married for 29 years and live in Lauderdale, Mississippi. When she's not working, she loves antiquing. "I'm always looking for forgotten treasures that I can repurpose." You can contact Amber at amberbruistermorgan@ gmail.com. L ast fall, Alabama Beta initiated 124 women into our Pi Beta Phi sisterhood. With the assistance of our current members, Executive Council, and supportive alumnae, we conducted two full days of Initiation ceremonies. While each individual had a very special experience with the ceremony, there were some extra special moments. Freshman Jenna Rose Alder '13 from Southern California got the surprise of a lifetime when her sister, Hayley Alder, California Theta '12, flew in from the West Coast for her ceremony. Of the experience, Jenna said, "I was so surprised and it is something I will never forget!" In January, we were excited to welcome nine New Members into Pi Phi through Continuous Open Bidding. Alabama Beta invites all alumnae to participate in set-up for the Initiation ceremony and post-ceremony celebratory Cookie Shine. For questions or inquiries about these events, contact Vice President of Fraternity Development Lauren Chase '12 at albetavpfd@gmail.com. While nine new angels were recently added to our sisterhood, recruiting never stops for Pi Phi. We are already busy preparing for recruitment this fall. Our newest pledge class has worked hard to learn our door song and the ins and outs of recruitment during our spring workshops. We loved meeting some of the Potential New Members during Panhellenic Preview Day on March 8 and look forward to meeting even more during Spring Soiree on April 12. If you know any high school seniors who plan to participate in formal recruitment this fall, please send their names and home addresses to albetarush@gmail.com. If you have any questions about RIFs or other general recommendations, please e-mail Sarah Braslow '11 at albetavpm@gmail.com.
