RODEO COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Growney Brothers’ Moulin Rouge was ranked the second best bareback horse in the PRCA’s annual Bucking Stock of the Year poll. Big Tex, the Classic Pro Rodeo gelding who took Tilden Hooper to a share of the world record with a 94-point ride this year and holds a share of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo arena record, edged out Moulin Rouge. Bobby Mote had a 91.5-point ride on Big Tex at the 2008 Wrangler NFR to tie the arena record, and this year, in addition to Hooper’s record ride in Sil- ver City, N.M., Clint Cannon, Jerad Schlegel and George Gillespie IV have all ridden the bay for 90 points or more. “It’s very seldom you will find a horse that is that big and that athletic,” said Scotty Lovelace, owner of Classic Pro Rodeo. “If you compared rodeo to football, Big Tex is like a lineman who is tremendously athletic.” Harry Vold Rodeo Company’s Painted Valley, a 1,400-pound paint stallion, was voted the Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year, and After Party, of the Silverado Rodeo string, was the Bull of the Year. After Party has never been ridden in 17 tries at PRCA rodeos. Judges have nine times awarded him a score of 24 points out of a possible 25. Moulin Rouge, born in Red Bluff in 1994, was retired following the 2010 National Finals Rodeo. 2010 Bucking Stock of the Year Courtesy photo Jake Risk lifts 485 pounds to win the Dave Mobilio Bench Press Championships. LIFTING Dave Mobilio Bench Press Championships Saturday night Tehama Family Fitness Center honored a lost friend and former Red Bluff police officer Dave Mobilio. The Dave Mobilio Bench Press Champi- onships took place in Dave’s Cave weight room located within TFFC. This memorial weight room was added to the facility after Mobilio’s death in 2002, what better place to honor Dave. Mobilio had a pas- sion for power lifting and was a great bench presser himself. This event raised money for the Dave Mobilio scholarship fund through the Butte college Police academy. Most of the competi- tors were local and all extremely strong. “We knew competi- tion would be fierce this year, but had no idea that there would be over 30 participants and such impressive perfor- mances,” TFFC general manager Troy Lalaguna said. Throughout the night you could feel the ener- gy rise as the weights got heavier, the music got louder and the room became packed with spectators. This event was "raw" bench shirts were not allowed. Results Women Julie Diss won the lightweight division with a press of 160 pounds. Diss also won her body weight for reps, 135 pounds, seven times.
