The Martial Arts students gathered around McGruff and Deputy Sheriff Rod Daugherty to talk about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, abuse, bullying, gangs and violence. Sgt. Frank Bachmeyer and Deputy Coroner Chris Sharp were there with the sheriff's rescue boat and dive team to speak about how that mission of the Sheriff's Office works.The visit was on Monday, March 14. School reads by the campfire Courtesy photo West Streets School held its first “Reading by the Campfire Night” on March 7. Close to 100 family members filled the school campground to support the importance of reading. Volunteers read stories around the campfire then students capped off the evening by enjoying hot chocolate with marshmallows and graham crackers. All students were able to pick a donated book to take home along with a Dr. Seuss bookmark.
