While our Beta Theta Pi experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role as a living and learning center and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. In recent years, the Gamma Phi alumni leadership has been assessing our future at Oklahoma. The Beta Theta Pi Corporation has engaged the services of GH2 Architects, led by Michael Hall '88, to assess our long-term needs and to develop a plan to address those needs. The study included the desires of today's undergraduates and looked at what other fraternities have done to upgrade their facilities and programming. The assessment makes clear one important point: we must make a major investment in our chapter house to provide a quality educational experience in a state-of-the-art facility serving young college men for decades to come. Physical and Safety Needs Our house was completed 85 years ago but amazingly it has not received major renovations or improvements. Although the house shows significant wear and tear, it remains fundamentally solid. Over the years, there have been a number of small improvements and projects to keep an aging house functional. These renovations were funded by annual donations by generous alumni. But now, critical parts of the house's infrastructure need complete replacement. The heating systems and plumbing have far outlived their life expectancies and—with this project—will be completely replaced. The electrical systems will be updated with additional outlets for safety reasons and to provide adequate power for computers, printers and other electrical appliances used by today's students. The alarm and sprinkler systems will be overhauled to increase the safety of our members. The window frames, original to the house, are wearing out and need to be replaced with new energy-efficient windows. Academic Needs Beta Theta Pi at the University of Oklahoma has an unmistakable link with high academic standards. Our mission includes rushing young men with academic promise and fostering an environment for academic excellence. Study space and academic needs have changed, and we must address the needs of today's students by providing quiet, well-lit and comfortable study space with o u r c h a l l e n g e s
