"Rough," Red Bluff coach Kathy Brandt said. "When they came out on fire and took that 20-4 lead and hit those 3s, it was pretty tough to defend." The Spartans' Daisy Brose almost single-hand - edly kept pace with the Hor- nets' offense in the second period, scoring 12 of her 15 points in the quarter. But a combination of Kamira Sanders and Jordan Kim - brough kept the Spartans' comeback chances at bay, scoring 11 of the Hornets' 15 points in the period to aid their team's 33-17 lead at the half. Sanders scored 15 points on the night, and Kim - brough tallied 13 points. Red Bluff, to its credit, entered the playoffs weak- ened. The squad was with- out two talented guards af- ter Chelsey Bushnell and Katie Gallagher suffered season-ending injuries. The Spartans fell in five of their last six games to end their season, but didn't quit. After limping into the playoffs, the Spa r ta ns knocked out No. 6 Foot - hill and then upset No. 2 Shasta on the road to reach the championship round for the first time in 21 years. "I couldn't be more proud of this team," Brandt said. Going forward, the team looks poised to make an - other run at a title. Of its 11 players, only two are seniors. "I think we're going to be great next year," Brandt said. "I'm looking forward to it." Red Bluff's Payten McK - erras f inished with six points, Samantha Winning notched six points, Ashley Exum scored two points, Allison Winning tallied two points, Abby Brown fin - ished with two points, Julia Brandt scored two points, and Allyson Drury tallied one point.
