Anthony Birthday Reception on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Fayetteville Business and Professional Women's Clubhouse (FBPW) at the corner of Clarendon and Myrtle Streets in Fayetteville. In 1874 Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting for a president (before women had the right to vote). She was convicted and a fine was levied that she refused to pay. During the summer of 2013, five members of NOW joined many others in civil disobedience and being arrested, protesting the extreme actions of our General Assembly. They are awaiting their trials or the results of trials. This year's honorees are: Molly Arnold, Chuck Fager, Debbie Liebers, Judy Lowe and Nancy Shakir. We believe each of our honorees has acted in the finest tradition of Susan B. and want to recognize them for it. Chuck Fager is included because he has been an integral part NOW in Fayetteville and he was arrested. In the past the group has honored at least one woman who has made a significant contribution in a non-traditional field. Some past honorees include Associate Justice of the N.C. State Supreme Court, Patricia Timmons-Goodson; County Commissioner Jeannette Council; Joyce Malone, one of the first women to get her wings as an Army parachutist; Lynda Riddle, DJ and radio personality; Margaret Dickson, Member, N.C. House of Representatives and N.C. Senate; former Clerk of Superior Court Linda Priest; Associate Justice of the N.C. State Supreme Court, Cheri Beasley; Sandi Clagget, veteran and VFW activist; Councilwoman Kady Ann Davy; Ann Ashford, local activist; Molly Arnold, downtown business woman; Officer Stacy Sanders of the Fayetteville Police Department; and Diane Parfitt, former member of the N.C. House of Representatives and downtown businesswoman. We are very proud of our past honorees. We believe that they are an inspirational example. Admission is $30; $15 for students.
