Arizona Voices is the fi rst statewide civic engagement platform of its kind, where you can discuss the issues that impact our state with fellow Arizonans and elected offi cials. The site has two components: • Bills pages, where you can follow, rate, and deliberate legislation being consid- ered by state lawmakers. • Idea Lab pages, where you can post and discuss ideas for improving Arizona. Integrated with the statewide voter registration database, Arizona Voices allows only one vote per registered voter giving legislators an accurate glimpse of pub- lic opinion on any bill in their respective districts. In addition to the ability to comment and rate legislation, the system also allows for citizens and legislators to post visionary ideas for the state and get feedback from the online community. Be sure to visit www.AZvoices.gov. Arizona launches first of its kind civic engagement website Don't touch suspicious devices found in the southwestern Arizona desert. That's the warning from Arizona offi cials after a couple of blasting caps were found near Interstate 10 in the Quartzsite area. "We've had military and mining operations going on in that area for 100 years," said Lori Cook of the Bureau of Land Management. "Items that are left behind that could be extremely hazardous and dangerous like unexploded ordi- nances and explosives were found in the Quartzsite area" recently. What's alarming is that those had been moved before experts Quartzsite Mayor Ed Foster an- nounced the dates for upcoming elections at the council's meeting on Tuesday, February 11th, 2014. Mayor Foster stated there will be fi ve (5) Council seats available and the packets are available now. Council member seats which are up for 4-year term are Vice Mayor Mike Jewitt, Appointed members Norma Crooks, Carol Kelley and Mary Scott. There is one (1) 2-year term seat available. In October 2013 Monica Timberlake was appointed (until the next general election) to fi ll the council seat vacated by the resignation of Patricia Workman. Candidates must declare if they are running for a four- year term or two-year term. The Arizona Primary election will be held Tuesday, August 26th. Voter Reg- istration closes July 28 at midnight. The General election will be held Tues- day, November 4th. Voter Registration closes October 6th at midnight. Arizona's primary system is considered semi-closed. Unaffi liated voters may choose which party's primary they will vote in, but voters registered with a party can only vote in that party's primary. The fi rst date to fi le candidate nomi- nation petitions is April 28th, 2014. The last day to fi le is 5:00pm on May 28th, 2014. Deadline for Write-in Candidates for Primary Election is 5:00pm July 17, 2014; General Election is September 25, 2014 at 5:00pm. Packets are now available for Quartzsite Town Council positions at Town Hall, 465 N. Plymouth. For more information call Town Hall at 928-927-4333. EARLY BALLOTING: The La Paz County Recorder issues Early Ballots prior to all elections upon the request of the voter. No reason is necessary. Any registered voter may vote early. Early balloting begins 26 days prior to the election. You may request a ballot by mail or telephone. Contact the County Recorder at 928-669-6136. Mayor announces election dates could get there, she added. "It's always a good idea just to remind the public that these kinds of things are out there," Cook said, "and they need to be very, very careful when they come across them." If you fi nd an unfamiliar device on the ground, Cook said not to touch it, and to leave the area the way you came in. You can then mark it or pinpoint its location by GPS, and then call the appropriate authorities, she added. "You can call the Bureau of Land Management or the county that you happen to be in," said Cook. "You don't need to call 911 if no one has been injured." BLM warns of suspicious devices
