24 www.DesertMessenger.com February 19, 2014 Submitted by Linda Taylor Rainbow Acres 7th Golf Scramble We had another fantastic turnout for Thursday, Feb. 13, with 30 golfers play- ing in our 2 person scramble. We love the good ol' Arizona sunshine and warm temperatures! The fi eld was very competitive as only a few strokes separated the teams. The team of Cletus Winkler and Jerry Taylor captured fi rst place with a round of 35. Two teams fi red a score of 37 to fi nish in a tie for second place. They were Dino Linden & Le Raye Christner and Roy Lawson & Robert Dick- son. Closely following was the team of Grant Berube and Don Boyce who shot 38. Finishing in 5th place was Brad Romaine and Gary McGowan who had a 39. Sixth place ended with a 3 way tie. The teams of Bill Toner & Woody Lawson, Robert Barnard & Pete Lilly, and George Lische & Linda Taylor all had a score of 40. Gene Howard and Linda Durant were rewarded with 100 Grand candy bars for their efforts. Other prizes were awarded including hole-in-one on #1 which was won by Don Boyce. Closest to the pin for men was won by George Lische and LeRaye Christner for ladies. Long drive was won by Grant Berube and Linda Taylor. The next tournament at Rainbow Acres will be Feb. 27 at 9:30. This will be our last tournament of the season. It has been a fun-fi lled time and we look forward to seeing more of you out next season. The 2nd annual Good Guys/Bad Guys tournament will be taking place March 5 & 6 to celebrate the end of our season. Match play takes place at Rainbow Acres on Wednesday and Quartzsite Course #1 on Thursday. It is a 2-person scramble with a cost of $10 per person. You will receive a t-shirt, visor, & hamburger cookout. You choose your own partner and fi nd another twosome to be your opponents. Twenty-nine golfers teed off at 9:00 on the Quartzsite #1 Course. The scores were good and fi rst place ended up in a tie with 36 for the teams of Kit Wilkins & John Andrews and George Lische & Dean Har- rington. John Andrews hit a winning chip to break the tie for his team. Third place was won by Robert Dickson and Russ Leininger with a team score of 37. Fourth place was shared by the teams of LeRaye Christner & Bud Key and Grant Berube & Harvey Gibson with scores of 38. In the progressive drawing, Harvey Gibson's name was drawn. However, he did not make a hole-in-one on hole #10 which was the chosen hole. Tournaments continue weekly on Saturday morn- ings at 9:00 alternating between courses 1 & 2. The weather cooperated beautifully and the competition was evident. The day's winning team was Jerry Taylor and Darlene Aitken who fi red a sizzling 34. Their round included 4 holes-in-one by Jerry. The second place team with a 37 was Gene Swallow and Brad Romaine. Coming in third place was the team of Bill Toner and Ray Johnson who fi red 38. There was a playoff for 4th place between the teams of Kit Wilkins & Bud Key and Dennis Dole and Dino Linden who shot scores of 39. Kit Wilkins and Bud Key won the playoff. Dino Linden, tournament director, provided milk duds for the highest score of the day to LeeRaye Christner and Linda Durant. Again, there was no winner of the progressive competition as Dean Harrington did not have an ace on mystery hole #18. Action continues every Saturday starting at 9:00 except for February 15 which is the date of the Quartzsite Masters Tourna- ment. Cost is $4 per person.
