Invite your customers to vote for your business as "Best Of" your category in FFA celebrates member achievement at banquet By Claire Lester The greenhand and chapter degree banquet is an annual event where members of Red Bluff FFA are recognized for their accomplishments. The greenhand degree is typically awarded to freshmen who are enrolled in an agriculture class, but it can also be awarded to older students who are applying for the first time or if this is their first year in FFA. The chapter degree is awarded to students who have already earned their greenhand degree in a previous year and a few dedicated eight graders in the community received their discovery degree. In order to earn each degree, the student must have met certain require- ments, such as being enrolled in an ag class, knowing the FFA creed, attending FFA events, and managing a supervised agricultural experience project (SAE). Once a student has met the requirements for their degree and completed the application, they can receive their award at the ceremony. The greenhand and chapter degree banquet and meeting was held on Jan. 22 in the RBHS cafe- teria. With more than 150 degree recipients and many other FFA members and parents in attendance, the room was full of excitement. The greenhand officer team officially opened the meeting before handing the microphone over to the executive FFA officer team. The president, Molly Murphy, began the ceremony and Gabe Fregoso and Rhylee Gar- rison recited the FFA creed. Next, each of the officers congratulated the recipients and wished them well on their FFA journey before handing them their certificate and a pin for their jacket. Along with the Chapter and Greenhand degree recipients were 11 Dis- covery Members, the Dis- covery Members are eighth grade members who hold an interest in FFA and plan on taking an animal to the Tehama Dis- trict Fair in September. The Discovery members were recognized with a certificate for their involvement the chapter so far this year; they will receive their Discovery Degree pin in May at The End of the Year Banquet. After the greenhand officer team closed the meeting, attendees were free to enjoy a variety of cake and celebrate their advancement in the FFA while surrounded by friends and family. Con- gratulations to all of the degree recipients. Courtesy photos Clockwise, from top left, Chapter Degree recipients, Green- hand Degree recipients and Discovery Members.
