Stand Up for Law Enforcement.
Now that's a headline you rarely hear or see in the local media.
I was born and raised in Fayetteville. Retired from the military and moved
back here several years ago. I am proud of, and respect the men and women
who protect the liberties and freedoms we enjoy. That includes our law
enforcement officers and first responders. Our law enforcement officers
undergo extensive screening, training and evaluations to earn their badge. I
say let them do their job. Crime rates in Fayetteville have risen over the last
several years at the same time the mayor and city council have entertained
countless false accusations against the police department. Actions by
the mayor and council have resulted in needless bureaucratic red tape,
restrictions and additional work that hinders our officers from doing their
job. The council has spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on various studies
only to find out the men and women of the Fayetteville Police Department
are doing a good job, despite the constant harassment from members of our
local community, government and media. I hope the new mayor and council
members will do what the voters have asked with respect to combating
crime in our city. I challenge the new mayor and council members to reverse
the trends of the past. Stop strangling our police department and let them
breathe. Trust the officers who are trained and sworn to defend and protect.
And the next time you see an officer, let them know you appreciate the job
they do.
