CUMBERLAND Employers Needed for March 27 Job Fair Community Garden To Assist Food Bank The 14th Annual March To Work Job Fair will be held March 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crown Expo Center, 131 East Mountain Dr. Employers are invited to participate. There will be room for 110 booths and employers are encouraged to sign up promptly as space will fill up quickly. Booth space is free and equipped with wireless Internet. Electrical access for the space is available for a $25 fee by contacting the Crown Expo business office at 438-4107. The Cumberland County Department of Social Services Work First Program will sponsor the fair along with community partners. Last year's job fair attracted an estimated 4,500 job seekers. The event is free and open to the public. A free shuttle service will provide rides to job seekers from the DSS building at 1225 Ramsey St. to the Expo Center. Cumberland County Cooperative Extension's Master Gardener Volunteers have teamed up with the Second Harvest Food Bank to establish a Community Garden designed to teach people how to grow their own food. "What the garden produces will go back to the Food Bank, but the main goal is to teach people how to grow food," Bailey said. The garden will feature typical vegetables including cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers and squash. Bailey said a different gardening skill will be taught each month. The garden is being planted on the food bank property at 406 Deep Creek Rd. Master Gardeners and volunteers began work on the garden Jan. 11. "Second Harvest Food Bank contacted us to help plant a community garden that would be used as a teaching tool to help people in the community learn how to raise their own fruits and vegetables," Bailey said. "They called on us to teach because of our gardening expertise." County Tax Listing Deadline Jan. 31 The Cumberland County Tax Administration Office reminds citizens the deadline for the 2014 listing period is Jan. 31. Citizens can access all tax listing forms and information at www. co.cumberland.nc.us/tax.aspx. If you need help listing, visit Room 530 of the Cumberland County Courthouse or call 678-7507. New residents and those listing for the first time should contact the Customer Service Department. New residents are responsible for obtaining and submitting the necessary listing forms. Active duty military personnel whose state of legal residence is not North Carolina must submit a copy of an LES for December 2013 with the listing form. Businesses may request to file an extension until April 15. The request must be on company letterhead and received or postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service by Jan. 31. Extension requests can be done online on the link "Business Listing Extension Request."
