T
here has been such an amazing
opportunity put into the hands of Alpha
Gamma members. Since the colonization of
our Alpha in spring of 2013, three factors
have propelled our every move:
• Building better men
• Creating lifelong friendships
• Enhancing the college experience
Even though we are a young organization,
we have very big goals that we are working
diligently to achieve. Our number one priority
is academics, so therefore our number one
goal is to be competitive academically on
campus. In the spring of 2013, we were
second among fraternities in academics, and
we will continue to shoot for the number
one spot. Another goal is building our
rapport with the University's administration
and also the Greek community. We have an
overall goal of being competitive nationally
among other Alphas to be able to compete
annually for the Thayer Trophy.
We have many ideas for philanthropy events.
We love the fact that we are not limited to a
specific philanthropy since we do not have a
national Chi Psi philanthropy. We plan to use
our philanthropy events here to emphasize
one of our key factors, which is Building
Better Men. We want our events to broaden
the horizons and awareness of our members,
so we have been spending time every week at
the Boys & Girls Club, and raising money for
Ronald McDonald House Charities and Blair
E. Batson Children's Hospital. We would
love to put on events like Iron Chef here at
the University or host kickball tournaments
that encompass the entire university and city
of Oxford.
Our members have also been excelling
in extracurricular activities at Ole Miss.
Some of our members have been named to
Who's Who Among Students, some have
been inducted into Phi Kappa Phi (the most
prestigious honor society), others have been
directors of their organizations, served as
orientation leaders, and served as members
of the Columns Society. The excitement that
exudes from our newest pledge class shows
promise for the future and what is to come of
the Alpha Gamma of Chi Psi.
Yours in the Bonds,
Ruben Ruiz '15
