F CUS On Long-Time Employee Honored with Order of Long Leaf Pine 20th Annual "Grinding of the Greens" Set Fayetteville Tree Pickup Begins Jan. 6; Trees Will Be Recycled Jan. 11 For 20 years, the employees of the Fayetteville Public Works Commission, City of Fayetteville and Duke Energy Progress (DEP) have partnered in the annual "Grinding of the Greens" Christmas Tree Recycling program. Designed to protect and enhance our environment, the program encourages Fayetteville residents to recycle their live Christmas trees and, since 1994, has kept thousands of pounds of recyclable material out of our landfills. The City of Fayetteville annually collects the trees from city residents and PWC and DEP volunteers grind them up into mulch used on woodland paths at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden and community parks. The annual event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11. Fayetteville city residents can put their trees out for curbside collection by Monday, Jan. 6. The City will make special pickups Jan. 6-10 - pickups are separate from yard waste, trash or recycling pickups. All lights, stands and trimmings should be removed from your tree. If you live outside the city limits or miss the pickup, you may drop your tree at the Botanical Garden (Hwy 301 North) any day before Jan. 11. The Garden entrance is accessible even though multiple bridge replacement projects on Hwy 301 South are in progress. The Grinding of the Greens begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Botanical Garden on Jan. 11. Past recipients include such famous Tar Heels as Billy Graham, Maya Angelou, Bob Timberlake, Michael Jordan and Rick Hendrick. The City of Fayetteville would like to advise the public that some residents will be affected by recent changes instituted by Time Warner Cable regarding the City's government access channel, FAYTV7. Time Warner Cable is now broadcasting FAYTV7 in digital format and viewers who do not use a cable box will be affected by the changes. Time Warner Cable has set up a toll free number to assist cable subscribers affected by the changes. Subscribers can call 1-855-286-1736 to talk with a Time Warner Cable representative on how to reconfigure their television sets to continue watching FAYTV7. Anyone with a set-top cable box is not affected by the change and will still be able to view FAYTV7 on Time Warner channel 7.
