As was mentioned recently in The Buzz, WinterJam has been the most attended
concert tour in the world for the first quarter of each of the last two years. In this
second part of our two-part series we will hear from a couple more artists from the
tour. First, a few details about the WinterJam Tour Spectacular. It will start at the
PNC Arena in Raleigh on Jan. 3 and the tour will later wind its way to the Crown
Coliseum in Fayetteville on March 13. Once again admission is a $10 donation at the
door. In return, you get to enjoy ten artists and the very engaging speaker, Nick Hall.
The artist lineup this year includes: The Newsboys, Thousand Foot Krutch, Lecrae,
Tenth Avenue North, Plumb, Newsong, Colton Dixon, Love & The Outcome,
Everfound and Derek Minor.
With the Newsboys headlining WinterJam for the second time, I hooked up with
drummer Duncan Phillips to get his thoughts on what has become the most attended
tour in the world. "I think there's a real intrigue now, really in the mainstream market,
about what this Christian music's all about. It really is getting a lot more notoriety even
in the mainstream press. So I'm hoping that that continues because I believe we've
got something to say" stated Phillips. "Our culture right now is so sick and toxic that
really one of the biggest alternatives in music that's out there is Christian music. I think
people's heads are being drawn to it and I couldn't be more excited!"
Colton Dixon, an American Idol alum, is on the tour for the first time. He has
attended several WinterJam tours before though, "I have been going since 2006.
I absolutely love WinterJam. It's one of my favorites that came through, near my
hometown in Nashville." About his experiences as a performer on the tour Dixon said,
"There's such a genuine nature to it, and such a sweet nature about it. Not saying the
American Idol Tour wasn't but it's obvious people want to make Jesus famous and not
themselves. And it's such a pleasant change of atmosphere." Dixon will share a few
songs from his new album Messenger. The theme of the album came from John 13:16
that says, "No servant is greater than his master nor is the messenger greater than the
one who sent him." Dixon went on to say "We're really just spreading God's message
and God's love and so we really don't deserve any of the credit for that. The last track
on my record is called 'Let Them See You' and I think that sums it up
just about right."
It's 10 artists for only $10
when WinterJam comes to the
