At his college internship in New York, a Sigma Chi alumnus reached out to be sure he attended the local alumni group meetings. At his first job after college with IBM, Ken met Sigma Chis during his first week of training. At his country club today, more than 60 Sigma Chi members meet for lunch twice a year. "Every place I go, I meet other Sigma Chis. Around the world, casual acquaintances have become lifelong friends because of Sigma Chi." 013 has been another great year at Gamma Delta. The Chapter started the fall semester off by winning another Peterson Significant Chapter Award at the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop. The Peterson is the symbol of excellence for Sigma Chi chapters, and we are proud to win this again. Hopefully this begins a run of Peterson Awards for the next few years. Ken's own Sigma Chi journey began with a desire to join fraternity life at Oklahoma State. Sigma Chi was a cut above other fraternities on campus and the friendships he developed through recruitment made Sigma Chi a comfortable fit. Stepping up as a Chapter officer developed Ken's leadership skills and understanding of working within a large group of individuals. We have also seen success with the Chapter's alumni tailgate program. Thanks again to Roger Helms '86 and John Clerico '63 for financial gifts to help get the program up and running, as well as funding some of the operations. This is a great gesture for our undergraduates and alumni to enjoy on game day. Special thanks are also in order for Joe Porter '64 and Jim Kuykendall '87, who have been very involved in the tailgate operation, making sure everything runs smoothly. "Serving as an officer was a great opportunity to learn about governing, leadership, and working from within an organization to create change. A social fraternity is a complex organization where young men come together around an ideology. The officers find themselves in a unique position of calling their brothers to live up to their commitments." Finally, recruitment will be here before you know it. Please be on the lookout for potential new members who exemplify the Jordan Standard and let the Chapter know about them. We'll be sending out referral forms in the spring. Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the Chapter and the House Corporation. His involvement provides a unique perspective for others looking to become involved. "It's okay if interest in your university, Fraternity, and even your church drifts a bit in the early years after college. Your focus is on making your way in life, starting your career, and often a family. Sigma Chi is frequently the catalyst to reconnect to college life. Don't wait too long to take advantage of all that Sigma Chi offers to its alumni." Ken's own commitment to Sigma Chi was honored by the national Fraternity when he was named a Significant Sig, an honor that caught him totally off guard. "Humbling was a word (Continued on page 4)
