Chapter Receives Local and National Recognition Recipients of Sigma Chi's Blue Peterson Significant Chapter Award T he last few years of the Gamma Delta Chapter at Oklahoma State has been marked by considerable improvement, and the past months have seen the trend continue. Our Chapter has seen growth in virtually every area, including academics and philanthropy. The growth is directly attributable to our members and officers, who have stepped up and proven the success of the Chapter and Fraternity is important. Chapter Receives Awards Gamma Delta has continued its impact on campus through Homecoming, shows, intramurals, and campus involvement. Homecoming 2013 saw our Chapter paired with the women of Alpha Omicron Pi, which produced an excellent house decoration for our returning alumni. We placed first in Football Frenzy and were awarded the Philanthropy Award for our contributions to Harvest Carnival. Last spring we added to our success in shows by placing fourth in Varsity Review with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma and third in Spring Sing with the women of Alpha Delta Pi. Increase in Philanthropy Involvement Philanthropy involvement and effectiveness have been an area of dramatic expansion in the Chapter over the last semester. In addition to our participation in all of the traditional Homecoming activities, the Chapter, along with the women of AOII, committed to helping build and fund a Habitat for Humanity house in Stillwater. We hope to have the Habitat house completed by the beginning of the spring. The Chapter also had an increase in the number of brothers serving with Big Brothers Big Sisters, rEcess, Dance Marathon, Engineers without Borders, and Camp Cowboy. The Chapter teamed with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a deserving family in Stillwater. Leadership Training Experience Last summer we had 11 brothers represent Gamma Delta at the annual Balfour Leadership Training Workshop in West Lafayette, Indiana. There they received officer training and participated in various breakout sessions for the betterment of the Chapter and Fraternity. At the end of the week, the Chapter was selected as one of the Blue Peterson Significant Chapter Award winners, the top honor an undergraduate chapter can receive. Seven New Brothers In August, Gamma Delta performed another successful initiation, welcoming seven new brothers. We are excited to see how these new leaders contribute to the historic success we have had. We have implemented house-wide scholarship teams, boosting the morale, brotherhood and accountability for academic success by all brothers. We are looking forward to hosting our Derby Days Philanthropy Week in the spring, benefitting the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Emily Grace Stiegler Fund. Continued Improvement As the fall semester comes to a close and I prepare to pass the gavel to the incoming consul, I reflect on all of the challenges and progress that we have experienced at Gamma Delta. All of the accomplishments and success that our Chapter has seen is directly correlated to the work The Sig Scroll and dedication of the brothers and the strong arms that support us. We will continue to look for improvement and push for excellence. Nothing could be done without our amazing alumni support, and our doors are always open to returning alumni.
