beta theta pi 5 Alpha Nu Donates to Operation Wildlife Brothers Continue Tradition of Success A lpha Nu experienced a spring semester that strongly challenged our chapter's membership and leadership. The resulting situation from the December Turkey Pull left its mark on our chapter's activities. However, the outstanding men of Beta greeted this opportunity, adapted to positive chapter-wide changes, and continued our success in many campus and community facets. The men of Beta have learned from this experience and look positively to the future to continue the standard of excellence that all Alpha Nus— past, present, and future—are held accountable to. $1,000 Raised for Operation Wildlife Headed by Robert Keenan '15, Beta hosted a philanthropy event that raised more than $1,000 to benefit Operation Wildlife, an organization that rescues injured animals and rehabilitates them. Because of the generous contribution, Operation Wildlife brought two eagles to the chapter house for a presentation. Alpha Nu Excels on Campus University student elections were held in the spring for the upcoming year. Marcus Tetwiler '14 formed an opposition party to challenge another student group who held the president office for more than 20 years. Through tireless work and a strong supporting staff, Marcus won the election and became the student body president in a landslide win. Having a Beta at the head of the student body is a wonderful accomplishment and a great reward for the character and work ethic of Marcus and many others. Outstanding Academics The chapter again earned high marks in academics in the fall of 2012 with an average chapter GPA of 3.39. The freshman class finished with a 3.44 average. Both earned marks for Top of the Hill among fraternities. We expect to do just as well this semester. Brothers Recruit Quality Members Our recruitment chairmen have found a full group of accomplished young men to become the next pledge class at the Hutt. We value our chairmen and the great results that have come from their hard work. Thanks goes to Matt Vestal '13, Andrew Edmonds '13, and Mike Lierz '13 for their commitment to Beta. Successful Mom's Weekend The chapter enjoyed a very successful Mom's Weekend this spring. It is always a great time having the moms around to create and continue relationships. Trivia Night was again the highlight of the weekend. The Beta A-1 flag football team celebrates after winning the championship game: Mike Britton '13, Austin Trees '13, Jack Shuss '13, Andy Larkin '14, Andrew Wolfe '12, Mike Lierz '14, Brett Jensen '15, Jackson Long '15, Andrew Edmonds '14, Ed Machen '13, and Matt Vestal '13. Beta Takes Greek Championship in Football Beta continued its tradition of intramural competitiveness. There is a great emphasis on competing in every sport offered for the sports cup. Beta won a thrilling championship game in come-from-behind fashion against Phi Delt, 29-21. The team scored once to tie the game in the final minute. After an interception, Beta scored again with four seconds remaining for the win. Tradition of Excellence Alpha Nu continues to pursue and achieve success in many areas on and around campus. The upcoming semester will prove important in showing what the chapter learned this spring. I have great confidence that our group of men will continue to achieve the highest marks in academics, intramurals, community service, philanthropy and more as Beta continues its long-standing tradition of excellence.
