Pi Kappa Alpha Mark Hruzek '81 and Tucker Graves '78 are all smiles at the Houston-area alumni reception in October. B The Dallas summer alumni event was held at the home of Chris Jones '70. At the event were Steve Parsons '71, Doug Bradley '69 and Eddie Cartwright '70. Will Jones '73 and Jay Messer '69 reunited at The Headliners Club Austin Pike alumni reception in August 2013. Pike Alumni Receptions Held across Texas eta Mu alumni continued the tradition of summer and fall gatherings around the state. Steve Hudson '76, Jim Jacks '70, Jon Jones '77 and Mike Teague '71 were among the many attendees. Brothers Mickey Elliott '45, Mike Elliott '76, Keith Griffith '66, Todd Hasie '81 and Van Reese '60 enjoyed cocktails and camaraderie at Austin's Headliners Club on August 20. Houston brothers gathered at the Palm and Stogies Cigar Bar for happy hour and cigars on October 2. The evening was generously underwritten by Stratton Borchers '07, Tucker Graves '78, Mack Gibson '67, Jonathan Saperstein '07, Kevin Swantkowski '94, John Wallace '78, Jim Windham '62, Reed Wood '66, Blair Woodward '94, Davis Zdunkewicz '81 and Lee Zieben '95. In Dallas, brothers gathered on August 22 at the Highland Park home of Chris Jones '70 for Tex-Mex and margaritas. Marcus Fettinger '03, B Pike Parents' Weekend a Success eta Mu members hosted their annual Parents' Weekend September 21-22, yielding a large turnout of Pike families and friends. Families enjoyed a Friday night reception and dinner at the fraternity house, hearing from recent alumnus Stratton Borchers '07, who spoke of how Pike has influenced him as a pledge, active and now as a young alumnus. On Saturday, Pike families enjoyed barbecue and refreshments at the Pike tailgate site near Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium before the Longhorns defeated Kansas State. Senior Marshall Frieden '10 and his parents journeyed from Houston for the Friday night cocktail buffet. Chris Herrington '09 was recognized during Parents' Weekend with a new award for a deserving senior who has served Beta Mu selflessly with little recognition or without holding office, and has been active on the U.T. campus, bringing visibility to Pike. Chris is the first recipient of the newly christened Frederick Southgate Taylor Award. Chris is a Houston Strake Jesuit graduate and maintains a 4.0 GPA in petroleum engineering. He exemplifies scholarship, leadership, athletics and the gentlemanly ideals of the fraternity. The award is named for one of Pi Kappa Alpha's six original founders.
