That amount is reported to be a 1.5 percent decrease compared to last year, when 44 million people traveled during the holiday weekend, according to the release. The decline is being attributed to a "weakened consumer sentiment tied to economic uncertainty and the government shutdown," a AAA spokeswoman said in the release. "On a positive note, travel volumes are expected to remain well above 7 5 8 5 5 1 6 9 0 0 1 9 the 2008 and 2009 levels when the recession caused a 25 percent drop in travel numbers," spokeswoman Jessica Brady said in the release. "However, last year there was a larger increase in overall travel than initially forecast for the Thanksgiving holiday. We could see more travelers this year than expected as a result of falling gas prices and last minute travel plans." AAA projects 90 percent (38.9 million) of people to travel by automobile, according to the release. Recent prices at the pump in Red Bluff have ranged between $3.33 and $3.55 per gallon of regular gas, according to californiagasprices.com. The state average is $3.55, and the website marks gas prices as being "stable." While at the convention, they'll attend PRCA meetings to be informed of changes in rules and regulations and will network with other PRCA rodeos across the nation. They will also be looking for specialty acts for the 2015 rodeo. The Tehama County Board of Supervisors dissolved seven county park commissions Tuesday in favor of creating a single Countywide Commission to advise on operations, conduct and management. An individual park commission will be maintained for Camp Tehama in Mill Creek., which was said to still be managing itself unassisted. The new eight-member countywide board will include a member to represent each of those parks in addition to Simpson Finnell Park, Cone Grove Park, Mill Creek Park, Ridgeway Park, River Park, Noland Park and Gerber Park. The Board of Supervisors will appoint the members and should a new park be built in the future, a member would be added to the commission. In March the board created an ad hoc committee consisting of supervisors Burt Bundy and Steve Chamblin to gather information about the eight separate park committees. The committee found the individual commissions were having a hard time retaining full boards outside of Camp Tehama. In addition to dissolving the seven commissions, an amended ordinance approved by the board requires that donated funds or funds derived from park use be deposited to the County Treasurer — with the exception of Camp Tehama. The funds will be accounted for separately by park and used accordingly from the new Park Commission's oversight for special projects within the respective parks. Supervisor Bob Williams raised some concerns over that aspect of the plan when it came to Simpson Finnell Park in Paskenta. Williams said the community there takes great pride in its park and has heard some concerns about the new arrangement. He noted that it was just a first reading on Tuesday See PARK, page 7A Holiday Fair to feature local gifts The 4th Annual Buy/Sell/Trade Holiday Fair is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Kitchel Family Organics farm.
