His father attended Auburn in 1929 and was a member of SAE, and his older brother attended the university in 1949 and pledge SAE. "Coming from a small town in Texas, I knew nothing about fraternities, and the summer before I came to the university, I attended an SAE event. I just always knew that if I was extended an invitation to join the chapter, I would accept; I didn't even think about other fraternities." Gary made many lasting memories and great friendships during his time with Alabama Alpha Mu Chapter. "By happy happenstance I found an apartment half a block from the chapter house, and my roommate was an SAE, so we enjoyed being at the house often. I was always pleased with my choice to join SAE and was a proud member, as it was one of the best chapters on campus." Gary graduated with a degree in industrial management from the school of engineering. Having worked for his family business for two years before attending college, he knew he was interested in pursuing an educational degree in that field. Gary has since worked at Martin Sprocket and Gear Inc., a manufacturing business, for 62 years. His career took him to California, and as distance and time went on, he lost touch with Auburn and the Alabama Alpha Mu Chapter. The Auburn development department reached out to him almost 40 years after he graduated and brought him back to Auburn to reintroduce him to the campus. "I fell back in love with Auburn that day. The woman who gave me the tour was later asked by a colleague who she toured the campus with and when she gave my name he said, 'That's my little brother.' He called me up, and we reconnected and have stayed close ever since." Gary has since been involved on campus working with the school of business and enjoying SAE functions like his 50th class reunion. Gary and his wife, Judi, live in Arlington, Texas, and have a daughter, Evie. We have 37 pledges representing seven states. This is a solid class both in quality and numbers, but it is never too early to think about next year's class. If you have an outstanding young man you would like to recommend as a recruit, please feel free to send that information to Thomas Thorneycroft '15 at (251) 605-6915 and he will make sure to add him on the recruitment list.   Alumni Reunite at Homecoming The house corporation hosted an alumni event at Homecoming featuring refreshments, food and a live band. Several classes had reunions at the house and the event was a success. Hopefully we can have another event next year. I would encourage any pledge classes interested in having a reunion to consider having the reunion on a football weekend and making the house home base for the event. If your class has any interest in holding a reunion, please feel free to call Alumni Chairman Haynes Litchfield '16 at (334) 3187863 for assistance. Reserved Parking for Football Games For those of you who have been to an Auburn football game recently, you surely are aware that parking is at a premium. The brothers have taken it upon themselves to make individual reserved parking spaces available for the entire football season to alumni and parents for a donation of $600. Consider parking at the house next year and making a donation to the fraternity at the same time. Contact Shepard Parke for more information.   Thank you for your continued support of Alabama Alpha Mu. If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to e-mail me. Fraternally, George Parker '94 House Corporation President gparker@babc.com
