The ΣΦΕ SigEp Seminole FLORIDA EPSILON s FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY s SIGMA PHI EPSILON Fall 2013 AVC STARTS MENTORING PROGRAM FOR FLORIDA EPSILON Alumni Provide Advice to Undergraduates HOUSING OPTIONS STILL BEING EXPLORED T he Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) has focused on mentoring Chapter officers this fall. The mentors are SigEp alumni, both from FSU and other schools, as well as FSU faculty members, and will provide guidance in member development, recruiting, finance, standards, and leadership. The AVC also continues to look at housing options for the Fraternity. The Chapter still has its lot at Heritage Grove, but the AVC is exploring other alternatives closer to campus. Historically there has been very little property available near campus, which is truer now with the College Town development in the Gaines Street area. FLORIDA EPSILON LOOKS FORWARD TO RECEIVING CHARTER With strong support from you, Florida Epsilon continues its return to FSU, recruiting 42 new brothers this fall for a membership of 120. The GPA requirement for receiving a bid is 3.0 and this GPA must be maintained in order to remain active with the Chapter. Florida Epsilon expects to receive its charter in the next 12 to 18 months, completing the process of once again being a fully active Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AVC It is the vision of the AVC to expand the group so that we can provide support to the Chapter and increase our communications and activities for alumni. If you are interested in helping, feel free to contact me. We have a lot in store for Florida Epsilon and hope to have your continued support. "At the time, Florida Epsilon had well over 125 brothers and I really bonded with my pledge class. There wasn't a time when I had my SigEp jersey on that I didn't feel an immense sense of pride on campus. We were still relatively young, as far as fraternities were concerned, but Florida Epsilon gave me endless possibilities of the great times we could all have during our college career. My big brother, Gary Wilson '85, was so instrumental in my growth in the Fraternity. He taught me patience and leadership. We still rely on each other to this day for strength and guidance in our lives." Michael served as secretary, vice president, and pledge educator. "When I was a member, I really started to appreciate what people before me had accomplished. The men in the old house really set the table for the younger brothers who would take control of the new house. Great visionaries like Dennis Quinn '81 and Clint Day '82 set the path for the younger members. It was always good to see those who had graduated come back for games and spend time with our beloved Mom Scott. With old and new brothers alike, we were able to bring the Fraternity into a new light and lead the way at Florida State." Now a national account executive for Spalding Sporting Goods and a lead college football scout for Florida Citrus Sports in Orlando, Michael still draws on his SigEp experiences to help him. "The Fraternity gave me so many gifts that will be with me for the rest of my life. It helped me in my (Continued on page 2) INSIDE: Sigma Phi Epsilon Excelling in All Areas 2 s Second Annual Sorority Wars 3 s Alumni Reunion 3
