Why We Must Succeed
hile our ADZ experience is certainly more than the bricks
and mortar of a Chapter House, our home undoubtedly plays
a significant role as a living and learning center and as a rallying
point of our brotherhood. Ensuring the overall success of our
members and assisting the Chapter in recruiting quality men must
be a top priority of our alumni. If we want our Chapter to be at
Missouri S&T for the next 95 years, we must commit to addressing
these challenges:
STUDENT SAFETY. It's been 58 years since ADZ moved
to our home at 1705 N. Pine Street. While updates and repairs have
occurred over the decades, we have reached a point where a major
systems update and modernization is overdue. A rebuilt facility
with modern safety and mechanical systems is instrumental to
keeping the Chapter House open and code compliant.
COMPETITION. Today, providers of student housing are
aggressively responding to competition by making significant
investments in upgrading or completely replacing their facilities.
While Lambda Chi Alpha continues to attract some of the top
men, we know that we are losing quality potential members to
other fraternities that offer better facilities. Kappa Sigma, Sigma
Phi Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Phi Kappa Theta are in the
midst of or have completed major projects already. We must also
compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus
residence halls and off-campus apartments. The university has
completed a new suite-style residence hall and has renovated older
residence halls. ADZ cannot continue to present the same housing
product it offered almost 50 to 60 years ago and have a realistic
hope of remaining a leader within the Greek community at Rolla.
As a result of this campaign, ADZ will be able to compete with
other fraternity housing, as well as a multitude of competitive
residence hall and apartment options, to recruit the quality men the
Chapter needs to preserve our legacy for the future.
PRESERVATION. Lambda Chi Alpha's prominence on the
Missouri S&T campus and its relationship among our brothers must
not be understated. Our Fraternity helps create a tie to Missouri
S&T by providing a sense of belonging and community within the
larger University. This role of giving our young brothers a home
away from home is something we must preserve and protect so
that the next generation will know the friendships and memories
we all treasure.
