Pride in Our Past Foundation for the Future The Campaign for Florida Alpha Needs You T he AVC held a National Chapter Meeting Teleforum for all Florida Alpha alumni earlier this fall. We appreciate all those who took time to attend to gain a better understanding of the Chapter's position and our path moving forward. Alumni volunteer effort has been divided between the Chapter's restart and the capital campaign. The restart effort commenced with the initiation of a post-mortem study of past Chapter failures and it has evolved into formation of a Chapter Restart Committee. Though our report and conclusions are not final, it is clear that the foundation of a successful Chapter in the future will be found in constant quality involvement from volunteers. I use the word volunteer purposefully as it includes not only Florida Alpha alumni, but also University faculty, local business leaders, and so on. Floor plan showing how the lower level will be renovated with your dollars. We are currently in the process of identifying a core base of volunteers who live locally in Gainesville to supplement both our local and national alumni volunteers. We are working to identify key faculty and local business leaders who are interested in mentoring our future Chapter leaders. Consistent mentoring from adult volunteers has been a shared best practice among the best Chapters in the nation. Our return to campus, which could be as soon as January 2015, will be predicated on the formation of a core group of local volunteers. Your campaign board is hard at work doing all it can to ensure our capital campaign continues to be a success and that we reach our campaign goal. While we don't have an active presence on campus currently, we must act now to ensure that we have a house that will attract the high-quality leaders we need, and that will help our future undergraduate brothers succeed in academics and recruitment. Our Chapter House needs to be renovated, and we can only do it with your help. We see this time as a golden opportunity to build a better Chapter and ensure long-term success. Due to the leasing of 5 Fraternity Row to ZBT Fraternity, we are in a great financial position that will not only ensure our facility will cover expenses, but allow us to forecast a significant contribution to our capital campaign from rental payments received. Our plan is to renovate the house once their two-year lease is complete. This will allow us to renovate while the Chapter is recruiting members during our first year back on campus. Upper level floor plan projected renovations. Campaign Status At-a-Glance As of November 13, 2013 $2 Million Goal $1,152,500 Total Contributions 74 Contributors The AVC and campaign board has listened to a lot of the feedback we've gotten this past year. Thank you for your thoughts, we appreciate hearing them. We are committed to reestablishing Florida Alpha as the preeminent chapter on campus. With our plans to renovate our house, we have also prioritized the development of policies that ensure the facility is not only well maintained, but also respected. During our post-mortem interviews with best-in-class chapters throughout the nation, we identified several policies to ensure proper treatment of the facility. One new policy will be the installment of video cameras that will monitor the common areas and automatic deductions from all brothers for damage that is unclaimed. We will be implementing practices used by for-profit owners of student housing to promote respectable treatment of the facility that we all love so much. Lastly, we need your help. Please help us reach our campaign goal and allow us to plan for our renovations by pledging your support today. We can only do this with broad participation that includes you. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions and we'd be happy to discuss those with you. Fraternally, Campaign Chairmen John Hume '66 • johnhume@bellsouth.net Robert F.
