University of Oklahoma Panhellenic Changes Recruitment Theta Gamma Welcomes 84 New Members R ecruitment was a big success at OU. All 84 potential new members have been initiated and are happy to call themselves Tri Delta members. Panhellenic made a couple of major changes to recruitment this year: starting it a day earlier and extending open house to two days. Sororities could not have skits during the second round of parties. The goal was to focus on conversation and each sorority's philanthropy. Tri Delta shines in this area, as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a wonderful philanthropy and Theta Gamma is a very big supporter of the hospital. Elaine Yarbrough '11 prepared a Candy Land scene for Philanthropy Day. For the second round of parties, the potential new members learned details about our fundraisers and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. They also learned about the Oklahoma City alumnae chapter's silent art auction fundraising event. Children in the art therapy program at the Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders create the artwork for the silent auction. Our new members include 16 President's Leadership Class members, five President's Community Service Class members, three OU cheerleaders, and three OU pom girls. The class includes ladies from Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Of course, it also includes out-of-state members, mostly from the Dallas and Houston areas. We are happy to have 23 legacies in this group of wonderful young women. The House Corporation's construction man cut Candy Land decorations out of wood. Elaine Yarbrough '11 spent her summer painting and glittering these decorations for Philanthropy Day. The decorations were a big hit. The chapter did a wonderful video about our philanthropy and it was a big success. Members combined and altered skits from prior years to be the third round skit and the Preference Day skit, along with some serious conversation. Both days were very upbeat with a combination of information, entertainment, and fun! More than 230 collegiate members enjoyed ice cream from the Roxy Ice Cream Truck as part of the initiation week formal dinner. Theta Gamma Plans a Trip to St. Jude Chapter Reaches New Donation Record T heta Gamma raised $9,485.75 for St. Jude this year, which is a new record for our chapter! Thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful cause. It was a blast! In 2012-13, the chapter raised $86,779. This included revenue from the spring Coffeehouse and Desserts event with the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon, last year's DHOP, the letter-writing campaign, and the 2012 Give thanks. Walk. Kristen Damphousse '12, Kelsey Kehlbeck '10, Sterling Von Strohe '10, Christy Cole '13, and Bre Foster '13 participate in the DHOP pancake breakfast, raising $9,485.75 for St. Jude. The chapter is excited to start a new tradition so the ladies can see where all of their donation money is going each year. Theta Gamma actives are planning a trip to visit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on Friday, February 7, 2014. They would love to have alumnae support in order to make this happen financially. If they don't have sponsorship, the girls will pay about $85 each to get on the charter bus. Please help bring down this cost in order to allow more girls to visit St. Jude Children's Hospital. If you want to help support this trip, e-mail Amber Morrow '11 at ajmorrow@ou.edu or mail a check, made out to Delta Delta Delta, to Amber Morrow at 1611 College, Norman, OK 73072. This year's Give thanks. Walk. benefitting St. Jude will be held on November 23. Alumnae are invited to join the OU Tri Delta team.
