News Theta Gamma delta delta delta t University of Oklahoma Inside • Elaine Yarbrough '11 Impacts Theta Gamma ~ p. 2 • Panhellenic Changes Recruitment ~ p. 3 t fall 2013 \Improvements Needed in Chapter House B Help Us Preserve Our Legacy efore I served on the House Corporation, I thought House Corporation members spent most of their time picking out chandeliers and paint. The truth is that we spend most of our time on two things: safety and the necessities of the chapter house. House Corporation Treasurer Sarah Page Wells '84 and I spend every week figuring out how to best preserve the house. Staying Competitive on Campus As most of you know, I am an advocate of the entire Greek system at OU. We are fortunate to have very good sororities. With such wonderful Greek life at OU, there is also tremendous competition to be the best sorority on campus. The Kappa chapter at OU has recently built a beautiful large meeting room on a lot north of their original house. They have also redecorated the entire first floor in the last two years. The Phi Pis and Chi Omegas have also been redecorating. Last summer, the Theta house was redecorated downstairs. I talked to a Kappa advisor a couple of years ago and she told me that the money for the new building was donated 100%. We are fortunate that our house looks very good and that it is safe. However, there are several major repairs that still need to be done. We need your help to ensure these projects are completed and to stay competitive on campus. Maintaining Our Chapter House In addition to our major projects, each summer the House Corporation does maintenance to the chapter house and tries to do an improvement project. In the last several years, the House Corporation has redone the parking lot, upgraded the downstairs air conditioning and heating systems, added wooden floors in the formal living room and activity room, put new carpet in the dining room and new tile in the informal living room. We also replace windows in the house every summer. All of the windows on the front of the chapter house are new and energy efficient. Natalie Gilbert '10, House Director Elaine Yarbrough '11, and Emily Schmidt '11 attend the OU-Texas game cookout. Upgrade the House Director's Living Quarters We would like to improve our house director's living quarters. Elaine lives in two very small rooms and has virtually no storage. We have plans to improve this without building on to the house. Our goal is to make Elaine's area a pleasant place for her to live year round and provide her storage and a work area. Your Support Is Needed Like every project, this will cost money. Please consider donating to the Theta Gamma House Corporation. No donation is too small! Of course, we never turn down a larger donation. We want to be one of the nicest houses on campus, especially since we have the best members, house director, and alumnae. Every donation is greatly appreciated! As president of the House Corporation, I want to set a good example by making a donation. You can see on the donor list that my family also donates to support these projects. Our House Corporation members are very generous every year. We are developing long-term plans to ensure the chapter house is a safe and a quality place for our undergraduates to live. With 296 actives, we have to plan for lots of wear and tear from general use. Thank you for your support! If you would like to purchase a plate in honor of or in memory of a Tri Delta, please send the enclosed form to Sarah Wells '84 at 329 NW 40th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73118.
