The Crescent Delta Mu Chapter Delta Delta Delta P.O. Box 861473 Tuscaloosa, AL 35486-0012 Presorted First Class U.S. POSTAGE PAID Birmingham, AL Permit No. 3246 Address Service Requested Core Values Remain Important as Membership Grows Johanna Cole '93 Encourages Alumnae to Get Involved J ohanna Reynolds Cole '93 has seen Delta Mu grow in membership over the years, and remains impressed by the values the women of Tri Delta hold. "I remain so encouraged by their maturity and vision," Johanna said. When Johanna was a member of the 1993 pledge class, they had 42 members. This fall as Chapter advisor, she witnessed the 2013 pledge class of 115 new members. "I'm proud to say we also initiated 115 girls," she notes. Leadership, responsibility, and involvement in campus and community were instilled in Johanna as an undergraduate. "I was always impressed that my Delta Mu sisters could be so responsible and involved, while at the same time finding time to enjoy their college days. During my time in the house and now, the members are encouraged to run their Chapter. Advisors are available to guide the girls, but we encourage the girls to take their leadership roles seriously." As treasurer and vice president of finance, Johanna describes her previous roles in the Chapter as a job. "I knew there were many people relying on me for their paychecks. I could not ignore my job for even a day." Johanna earned a B.A. in English and political science, as well as a juris doctor from the University of Alabama. Today she is a stay-athome mother and is active in the community. She credits her civic engagement to Delta Mu for being active on and off campus and is thrilled to see the girls continuing that level of philanthropy today. Johanna encourages her fellow alumnae to "put aside the excuses" and get involved. She gets together with her pledge class often, including a reunion in Tuscaloosa in 2012 and again in 2013 to wish the Round House goodbye. In addition to reconnecting with each other, she says to get in touch with the Chapter. "The undergraduate members welcome alumnae into their home and enjoy interacting with them. I feel as alumnae we have a lot to share with these girls. However, I truly believe they have a lot to share with us!" Johanna enjoys playing tennis and is involved in her children's schools and sports. She also serves on a number of local non-profit boards. She and her husband, Ray, have two children; Reynolds is nine, and Russell is six. "I hope my daughter, Reynolds, wants to join Tri Delta in the future. Right now, she loves to go with me to meetings and hang out in Housemother Jayne's suite!" Contact Johanna at johanna.cole@me.com.
