When Tom came back to the house the next day, my dad was so glad to see that he was ok," Sue says with a laugh. Another thing that has changed are rules about dates and housemother duties. "When there were big date party weekends, dates would move in and the boys would move out. My mother would stay at the house to monitor. She would receive calls from the women's colleges where the dates were from and she would assure them that all the men and women were being properly chaperoned. Oh how times have changed!" says Sue. "Of course, the men cared about their reputation and there was never any trouble." Bee Ager cooking for the men of Theta Xi in 1947. Len and Bee's kindness to the Alpha Chapter lasted for decades. They were best man and maid of honor at countless weddings. The pledge class of 1947 gave Bee a silver dining tray to thank her for her hospitality. In 1970, Len became only the fifth brother from Alpha Chapter to be bestowed with the fraternity's highest honor when Theta Xi elected him into the Order of the Unicorn for his lifelong efforts. Sue says the Theta Xi Chapter will always have a special place in her heart. She met her husband Dean "Meathead" Armstrong '51 (A742) when he was a young freshman on campus. "My father was college roommates with his father, Wesley Armstrong '22 (A321), and he gave us a call when he first got to town. We first met at the dinner table," says Sue. Sue hasn't been back to Troy for 30 years, but she does want to come to the 6294 celebration in the spring. She is thrilled to hear that the chapter is doing so well, and knows that her parents would be thrilled, too. E-mail: sude@frontiernet.net
