There was a sense of anticipation of the exciting year to come on move-in day at Alpha Upsilon when Mom H. welcomed everyone back. Many Delta Gamma women attempted to stuff all their belongings into those impossibly small closets. A new welcome banner stretched between the columns on the front porch and the housekeepers were hard at work preparing the house for another year. There was standing room only for the first Monday night chapter dinner as the women of Alpha Upsilon came together to begin another great year. Renovations Affect Recruitment When students returned to campus, there were several changes within the Greek community. The Tri Deltas have a beautiful new home which will accommodate 40 women. It has been under construction for the past year and is shaping up to be a grand addition to the SMU campus. Construction of the new Chi Omega house is underway on the corner once occupied by the SMU Faculty Club. Chi Omega plans to occupy their new house in the fall of 2014. Also nearing completion and opening in the fall of 2014 is the new sophomore quad. This new housing promises to be a very attractive option for sophomores who will be required to live on campus beginning in 2014, choosing either a dormitory or Greek housing. Updated and newly constructed residence halls offer private rooms with modern amenities, such as flat-screen TVs and kitchenettes. At SMU, the days of cramped, shared rooms are definitely a thing of the past. Summer Projects Completed In the spring, the living room and entry furnishings were refurbished, giving the downstairs rooms a more coordinated appearance. Summer was a time for repairs and tree trimming. Some major pipe repair was completed under the house, a factor of the age of our plumbing system. We also contracted with Photographic Archives of Dallas to restore the large framed portrait of Ludi Mai Goode. Our chef has signed on for another great year so the chapter can look forward to healthy and freshly prepared meals. Natalie Baum Davis '90 Joins House Corporation The most recent addition to the House Corporation is Natalie Baum Davis '90. Natalie is the owner of BD Development, a thriving residential building and remodeling company that she founded in 2002. She is married to her college sweetheart, Jordan Davis. They have a daughter, Avery, and a son, Brennan. She is thrilled to join the House Corporation and reconnect with DG and SMU. Homecoming Brunch a Success The Alpha Upsilon Homecoming Brunch was a huge success with many alumnae attending. It was a time for DG sisters to share memories while seeking out their old composites and taking photos. Tailgating on the Boulevard followed the traditional Homecoming parade and the Mustangs even managed a come-from-behind victory over the Temple Owls. Sponsor a Student for Membership We hope that you will have the opportunity to sponsor a young woman for membership in Delta Gamma at SMU. As in the past, recruitment begins in January; however, the chapter is accepting sponsor forms and letters of endorsement throughout the first semester. The Alpha Upsilon House Corporation continues to assess our future needs. Our aim is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our collegians while remaining competitive on the SMU campus. We thank those of you who have contributed to the success of our chapter by expressing your opinions and volunteering your expertise and ideas.
