Delta Gamma page 3 Alpha Upsilon Raises GPA to 3.4 Undergraduates Serve Community T he beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time for the Alpha Upsilon Chapter. On August 26, we hosted the annual Delta Gamma lectureship in values and ethics. Travis Tygart, an SMU law alumnus and CEO of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, spoke to the SMU community. As he engaged the audience in the obstacles of his job promoting honest and fair play among athletes, he strongly advocated for ethical practices among students on campus and throughout our daily lives. Undergraduates Prepare for Recruitment We have improved our scholastic rankings yet again. Our GPA remains higher than the all-Greek and all-women's averages with an impressive cumulative 3.4. We have continued to mandate study hours and emphasize the importance of scholarship. Elena Politiski '12 has been hard at work with the rest of the recruitment team in preparation for formal recruitment in January. Our members continue to meet potential new members on campus through their various organizations and in class. We feel very confident that we will have a successful recruitment week again this year and cannot wait to meet the wonderful women that will make up our new member class of 2014. Anchor Splash Raises $25,000 Anchor Splash was a success, raising more than $25,000 for Service for Sight. Chelsea Rickel '11 is busy at work planning more service events for our members. The chapter favorites are Meadows Museum, which develops ways for art to be enjoyed by the visually impaired, and volunteering for events at the Silverado Senior Living Home, which is a member of the Golden Anchor Program. Family Weekend a Success Our members remain extremely involved on campus throughout different philanthropic organizations, career preparatory clubs, and student leadership groups, such as Student Foundations and Student Senate. Delta Gamma also remains extremely involved on campus. We love participating in intramural leagues and have been on a winning streak. We paired with the men from Sigma Chi during Homecoming with Great Gatsby as our theme. The morning of the football game we held an alumnae brunch at the house before parading our float around the Boulevard! Courtney Quinn '11, our director of activities, worked on the events for SMU family weekend. As we welcomed in the SMU families, DGs brought their parents to the Sigma Chi house on Friday night for food and live music to gear up for our tailgating tent before the football game. Thanks for Your Support The Alpha Upsilon Chapter is starting the school year on a strong note and planning ways to continue our growth for next spring. Thank you, alumnae, for your support. Our success would not be possible without the foundation you have created for us. We invite you to visit the house at any time!
