Chocolate and other holiday treats are also graciously accepted by the organization in an effort to make this holiday special for its family. You can join Operation Inasmuch and HFOH for the H & H Stand Down, a city-wide effort to provide families in need with food, clothing and assistance services that will take place on November 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post 6018, located at 116 Chance Street. Both organizations will need volunteers to assist in handing out blankets, scarves and other basic necessity items to those living on the street this Christmas Eve. Throughout the month of December, you can be a part of HFOH's "Big Give" and sponsor a person in need by purchasing items from their Christmas list this year. Items requested range from toiletries to Bibles, travelsize games and coloring books and can be dropped off at Old Navy, Holmes Security Systems, Darden, Miranda & Associates Insurance, Cross Creek Subaru, and Prudential All American Homes listed by DD Burger in the King's Grant subdivision. Many organizations provide an opportunity for give this holiday season, no matter the size of your wallet. On November 8th, Fayetteville Urban Ministry will announce its annual holiday card special design by North Carolina artist William Mangum. The purchase of the $5 holiday card will go toward buying new clothes, shoes and toys for 15 to 20 of Fayetteville's most deserving children. "It's hard. You really get choked up about it—you see these kids, and they have their bags and big smiles. We're not making a Christmas, we're making a lifetime memory," said Johnny Wilson, executive director of Fayetteville Urban Ministry. The people of FUM recognize the difficulty of the journey back to selfsufficiency, and, as a result, cater to the population's immediate needs as well as their long-term goals. FUM boasts four programs to continue its mission of "transforming lives through faith, hope, love and security" with its FindA-Friend, adult literacy, emergency assistance programs and the Nehemiah project, respectively. December 1st through Christmas Eve, the Find-AFriend department will accept donations from individuals and businesses to adopt its most underprivileged youth for Christmas & Holiday season. Throughout the months of November and December, the emergency assistance department will be giving out holiday food bags to families and can use volunteers to help make food bags and pick up donated food.
